      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Bunraku admirably strives for visual panache, but the staging, acting, and effects are dismal with a complete lack of excitement.

steven d Cant understand the hate. If you like sin city or sneider movies, if you enjoy pulpy martial arts and westerns if u like steven chow movies and wu tang then you will enjoy this colourful melting pot, kungfu-noir western. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/24 Full Review Darren D The film itself is based on Japanese puppet theater & Bunraku from writer & director Guy Moshe, with a strong cast & Faith No More very own Mike Patton doing the narration, Guy Moshe brings fun action & humour that often feels cartoonish like a modern day version of 1960s Batman. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/27/23 Full Review Onur O I generally check from RT if a movie is worth watching but this time I don't really care what the critics say, I enjoyed watching this movie many (and many) times and would watch it again. I watched it over a decade ago and the epic way the story is told, it catches something. You feel the closed, limited atmosphere the movie makes as it reflects the theathe plays and it clicked with me when I first watched the movie. I think after a few critics evaluated harshly, the comformity took over the critics who gave the movie %19 and they watched the movie with a loaded gun, already ready to fire. Five this movie a chance. It is not a clear cut %19, it is not a bad movie. It is just "popular" amongst critics to demolish it and look sophisticated. The movie has a spark in in if you are not closed to it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/23 Full Review K S When the movie was first announced, I was excited. Traditional Bunraku, Japanese Puppet Theater, is gorgeous and entertaining. This movie did not disappoint in its name sake. Stellar cast and sets. Small nuances in each character provide development as the plot moves forward. One thing is that this movie is most likely a sleeper. Meaning, a following will grow over time. It's not for everyone because of the style used, but that style makes it stand out even a decade later. It has become one of my comfort movies since it came out. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/30/23 Full Review Roslyn M My wee husband loves this film and I can see why! The cinematographer is stunning, 👌 very poetic and thought provoking if you can be bothered looking that deep if not you still have the ability to enjoy and it has woody so c,'mon your already sold! ♥️ Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/24/22 Full Review max n Extremely painful to watch this for two hours. Boring and nonsensical. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Joe Neumaier New York Daily News It should surprise no one that visually quirky, graphic-novelish, pulp-noir action flicks rarely come through the sausage machine intact. Rated: 1/5 Sep 30, 2011 Full Review Lou Lumenick New York Post Extremely cool-looking in the manner of "Sin City,'' but clumsily staged, slackly acted and mind-numbingly dull... Sep 30, 2011 Full Review Andy Webster New York Times A potpourri of genres that ends up a morass of clichs.
