Ann Ross Maclean's Magazine It's an old-fashioned plot, but Actor Gregory Ratoff, who wrote the story, has brightened it up with amusing situations and funny lines, a great many of which he allots to himself. Oct 9, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Maria C like frothy champagne, this is a comedy with two of the most beautiful people ever to hit the screen, Tyrone Power and Loretta Young. Both are wonderful. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/30/18 Full Review Audience Member It's a light comedy/love story with a smart script and good performances. Tyrone Power is great in the opening scene.. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member wiki says this movie was a drama this movie is a comedy and i enjoyed this 1937 film with Loretta Young and Tyrone Power in the lead roles. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review bill t A pretty good movie here about a club owner who goes to great lengths to try to get his club out of debt. When a young American swindles him out of a big gambling win, he forces him to impersonate a Russian Prince for reasons I'm still not 100% sure on. Anyways, an American lady falls head over heels for the chap and that's where the fun begins. It's just ok though. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Although this movie was funny for the most part, and had some surprising moments, in the end it's predictable. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member You have two choices, either make love to the charming girl or spend two years in prison. Alexis is an American in Paris who is charming but broke. One night he loses $10,000 and bounces a check trying to pay his debts. The owner of the casino offers Alexis a deal, help steal the money of a Russian princess or go to jail. Alexis is left with no choice, help steal the money; the problem, he falls in love with the princess. "You are unquestionably the greatest man in Paris." "I've never denied it, sir." Edward Griffith, director of Holiday, No More Ladies, The Animal Kingdom, The Sky's the Limit, Virginia, Alias the Lone Wolf, Bad Company, and White Mice, delivers Café Mertopole. The storyline for this picture is very interesting. The plot is a bit predictable but reminded me a little of Roman Holiday. The cast delivers excellent performances and includes Tyrone Power, Loretta Young, and Adolphe Menjou. "He is nice...and that's what I don't like about him." I DVR'd this picture off Turner Classic Movies (TCM) because it stars the magnificent Tyrone Power. I have been a huge face of Tyrone Power for some time and found this performance excellent. The movie isn't perfect but the characters are fascinating and well developed. I recommend seeing this picture but I wouldn't add it to my DVD collection. "I want a roasted eagle."
