      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

It boasts a talented cast, but Kimberly Peirce's "reimagining" of Brian De Palma's horror classic finds little new in the Stephen King novel -- and feels woefully unnecessary.

Oscar S Loved it it was better than reviews Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/04/24 Full Review chucky.editzz 6 This movie was really good. I know it's a remake but it's a really good one. The music, scenes, acting, all good! I definitely recommend for you to watch it!. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/24 Full Review frank lee v Pointless remake that offered no new perspectives or details about the original story. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/14/23 Full Review Alec B There is nothing about Moretz (performance wise or visual appearance) that manages to even slightly suggest a girl who'd be a social outcast. Also, for a remake that was made nearly 40 years later, the special effects don't even come close to replicating or enhancing the memorable imagery (or horror) of the original Brian De Palma version. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/10/23 Full Review Jacob C Enjoyable. The story was well modernized to keep up with the times but is far from perfect. Worth watching for any fan of Carrie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/06/23 Full Review Anthony H This modern take on Carrie was so well done. The effects were put together very well and looked great with some exceptions. The way they brought the modern style and themes into this adaptation worked very well, and the slight tweaks to the story to make it more modern, made this a better film than the rest. Chloe Grace Moretz does a great and compelling performance along with Julianne Moore. They play off of each other so well as the twisted mother - daughter relationship and it works perfectly. This adaptation deserves the good ranking it gets for being a more modern take that is put together well and works. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Andi Zeisler Bitch Media Carrie resonates for women in particular because it touches on so much of the horror of becoming female that it's almost too real. I love that Kimberly Piece chose to honor that horror faithfully, even if it doesn't make for a radical re-visioning. Jan 20, 2021 Full Review Udita Jhunjhunwala Livemint Moretz plays Carrie as either a constantly petrified, meek outcast or a grimacing destroyer. Peirce fails to build a connection between audience and protagonist. Aug 14, 2019 Full Review Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com A tired, unneeded copy of Brian De Palma's far superior work, with the small changes it makes adding nothing of significance. Rated: C Apr 23, 2015 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The new Carrie offers no fresh insights into the material and delivers far less than what De Palma achieved both thematically and cinematically.
