In 18th century France, Louis-Dominique Bourguignon (Jean-Paul Belmondo) is a highwayman with a sense of morality. Together, they form a band of thieves, preying on the rich and sharing their bounty with the poor. Frank J. Avella Edge Media Network A young Claudia Cardinale plays Vénus with great energy and wit. But it's Belmondo who the camera has the greatest love affair with. The charismatic and sexy actor commands the screen. Rated: B Jun 9, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

TTM T Charming and likeable.....a novelty seeing Belmondo and Cardinale in an obvious attempt at a Hollywood swashbuckler job. (They're great!) I'd say the French stuntmen are not as convincing as Hollywood stuntmen! It's fun but slight. However.....out of the blue, the last ten minutes of the movie suddenly approaches great cinema. Great ending. When we finally have to say goodbye to Claudia Cardinale, something I can't bear to think of, the first thing I'm going to put on is the end of "Cartouche". That ending elevates an otherwise fun but kinda forgettable film. I gave it three stars for it being watchable and entertaining enough.....but I gave it an extra half-star for the last ten minutes or so. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/18/24 Full Review Audience Member Une fois enrichi, le bandit découvre l'ennui. "Amuse-toi, cela empêche de mourir", prévient Vénus Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Rousing and playful adventure film is reminiscent of Richard Lester's The Three Musketeers at times. Belmondo, surprisingly enough, makes for a pretty good swashbuckling hero, and Cardinale not only looks gorgeous but gives an impassioned performance as his gypsy love. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This is for me a very entertaining movie: good characters, Belmondo always enjoyable, Claudia Cardinale so charming... A very goof mix of humour and action. One of Belmondo's finest. Try also L'Homme de Rio, a movie somewhere between the adventure of Tintin and a James Bond of the 60s Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member There are some clever moments but overall it was pretty mediocre. It would have been better if it was less an ensemble movie and had a lot more swashbuckling. The only thing that kept me going was an occasional flash of cleavage from Claudia Cardinale. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite quite liking the Robin Hoodesque capers, I found this to be somewhat disappointing on the whole. The cinematography and costumes were well done, but I did not care about the characters. Thus, the ending didn't have the resonance it seeked. One thing I had an issue with was how Cartouche could have eyes for another woman when he had Claudia Cardinale! It makes no sense. ;) Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
