isa e Amanda Schull killed in this, sizzled, the dancing, lipstick, it all worked. plot was formulaic and pedestrian. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/11/23 Full Review Amanda H If you're looking for a movie with great dancing, this is the movie for you. It's in my movie collection, it should be in yours. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/28/23 Full Review Audience Member The worst acting ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member For a movie focused on dance with amazing dancers, the acting wasn't half bad. Not up to par with most movies but enjoyable for what it is. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member It's crowded with amateurish younger performers and has Lifetime Channel type plotting but it's benign material nonetheless. Unfortunately, I can't even recommend it to any dance enthusiasts. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member It's definitely cliche and some of the acting is a little wooden, even forced at times, but man it's just so much fun!! Because some of the "actors" are actually dancers in ABA, etc, the dance sequences are phenomenal. The main characters are also charming and very likable, so even though the main storyline is little flimsy and has definitely been done before, you are still very much rooting for these people to succeed, whatever that may look like for them. The ending may not exactly be realistic but it sure does feel great and leave you with a big smile. I guess what I'm saying is that Center Stage probably won't be winning any awards (except maybe for the dancing), but when a movie is this much fun to watch, who the hell even cares. Emanuel Levy Variety Assuming that every generation needs its own dance film, Hytner revists the turf of films like Turning Point (classic ballet), Chrous Line (Broadway dancing) and Saturday Night Fever (disco) and blends together their themes and persona to little effect.
