      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Chaos Walking sets out on a potentially interesting path, but this dystopian adventure badly bungles its premise and limps toward the finish.

      Audience Consensus

Chaos Walking's unique premise helps offset the story's predictable and confusing moments -- and the great cast makes this sci-fi adventure that much more exciting to watch.

James H 1st time inside movie theater in 357 days — excited to safely experience Chaos Walking in IMAX following AMC Theatres Safe & Clean policies and procedures, wearing a face mask in auditorium capped at 40% with every seat around mine removed from sales and empty 🍿😷 #ChaosWalking Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/19/21 Full Review CGar Daisey Ridley, Mads, and Demian turned a teen sci-fi flick into an enjoyable experience. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/29/21 Full Review The Scott fun, future-fantasy, different, creative. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/30/21 Full Review Walter E I did enjoy the acting by Ridley and Holland. And the concept of the movie where males inner thoughts are broadcast and they have no secrets in essence was good. But the movie is full of plot holes. For example Daisy's character is seen stealing from their house in the woods. Chases her to find this crashed scout ship at least the size of a half dozen or more school buses. And this thing crashed into the trees and woods starting fires all around it, within a short run from their house .. and NO ONE heard it? Wow. And then when they come across the remains of the original settler ship. But it's huge and was never cut into pieces or used in the settlements? ANY good colony plan includes using all available resources INCLUDING the original ship stripping it for every wire and circuit, and stripping it down for all metals to use in early foundries. That ship should not exist, let alone have working emergency broadcast beacons. I think that is what is disappointing. The storyline not to bad. But huge gaps in logic and consistency to the timeline and it leaves a mess of a story. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/26/21 Full Review B Intense, funny & unique. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/25/21 Full Review Dylan really great and fun movie. got bad reviews but I honestly really enjoyed it. it was an original concept which there is very few of those now. all there is now is reboots and sequels. but this was good. good amount of humor and seriousness with a good twist and suspense. would definitely watch again Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/24/21 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Barry Hertz Globe and Mail For any filmmaker contemplating their own YA franchise, Chaos Walking is an instructive anti-manual. For the rest of us, it's just noise. Apr 22, 2021 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review It lacks heft, or interest. Absolutely bone-numbingly dull and stupid. Apr 6, 2021 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) This device, of course, worked on paper, in the source novel, The Knife of Never Letting Go, by Patrick Ness. But it's appalling on film. Rated: 1/5 Apr 2, 2021 Full Review Manuel São Bento MSB Reviews The whole "men’s thoughts are seen by everyone, but women’s thoughts are not" is depicted in a way that leaves men portrayed as pigs and insinuates women have no brains. One of the worst films of the year. Rated: D+ Jul 24, 2023 Full Review Maggie Lovitt Millennial Falcon Reviews The most egregious act of this film is to have such an incredible cast entirely underserved by the script. Rated: C Mar 27, 2023 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut Chaos Walking is nothing but a stagnant and boring sci-fi adventure film that’s nothing but “exposition” in the not-too-distant future.
