Audience Member This is a good movie, and I love it. However I feel that something is missing. I watched this movie after reading the novel version. The story is almost the same, but the movie is shorter than the novel, so there are some differences between them. In this story, a political party prohibited sweet foods such as chocolates. The nation of that country cannot eat, drink, possession, sell and buy sweet foods. Is it an improbable low? At first, you might felt it is an improbable story and it is for children. However, it is actuary for adults. You might think more carefully and seriously about your country more than now. Huntley and Smudger, the main characters, are trying to change the country and get back chocolates. In the novel version, a friend who was taken to a jail came back to Huntley and Smudger's class, and he totally changed. He used to love chocolates so much and was cheerful but now he hates chocolates and doesn't speak so much after coming back from a jail. It is one of the most important scenes in this story because it tells how fearful the political party is. However this scene is cut in the movie version. In the movie version, the political party just says sweet foods are banned and don't eat them. The machines which search and find chocolates are frightful. If I were in the movie, I cannot go against the political party. When Smudger was taken by some police officers, his little sister was crying. Then I cried and I don't want to experience such a sad thing. As I said, there are some differences between the novel version and the movie version, but one thing is not change. That is we have to think more carefully and seriously about our country. In this story, sweet foods such as chocolates mean freedom. Everyone thinks our country and our life will never change if we vote or not. That is why, the political party won the election. Some adults help the two boys Huntley and Smudger, but most adults pretend to see nothing and do not help them. The reason is fearful and frightful to go against the political party and the government, and people may think anything would not change if we do something or not. Children do not know many things, but they have bravery and ability to take actions. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
