A sleazier and scummier version of similar Santa-themed slashers, for better or worse. Go to Full Review

I thought it was well done for what it was but it's just not something that I'll watch again. Go to Full Review

There's no real question that Christmas Evil is an exploitation film, but it's one of the rare ones that's even more concerned with mood and pathos than nudity or blood. Go to Full Review

There are a nice few slasher elements present in Christmas Evil while it also contains great psychological horror. A truly disturbing holiday movie. Go to Full Review

The film is noted for starting a sub-genre of the jolly St. Nick as a psycho slasher killer. Go to Full Review

Lucifer M 4d Is it perfect? Nope; but it definitely gets ya into the holiday spirit! Especially if you’re a horror fan. It’s one of those gems you’d want to add to the plethora of holiday themed films when you want to sprinkle some disturbing, psychological horror into the advent calendar mix See more Jason H Dec 6 A great character study/darkly comic horror movie. The director prefers the original title (You Better Watch Out); so do I. See more Sinister S. @sinisterSUE Dec 5 A Christmas horror classic, and a holiday tradition in our family. An interesting look at the life of a man who takes playing Santa to a new level. See more Tim M @tgmacman Jun 10 Christmas Evil isn't entirely naughty, but it largely fails to bring terrible gravitas to its seasonally subversive concept. See more Feb 19 Great movie to watch next to the fireplace. See more Wayne K Dec 20 When you talk about controversial Christmas films, people tend to point to the likes of Silent Night, Deadly Night, which sparked outrage and protests all over the United States. But Christmas Evil, which predates SNDN by a whole 4 years, attracted its own fair share of ire, almost ending up on the dreaded Video Nasty list here in the UK. It was a bit of a disappointment when I finally got down to watching it, with slack pacing and unremarkable directing. Also, for a film purporting to be about a Santa going on a rampage, its notably light on kills or brutality. A bizarrely high amount of the film is spent watching our lead going from place to place or getting himself ready for a kill, including an overextended scene on a roof, but it’s at its best when its dealing with the psychological trauma of the lead. He straddles the line between being obsessed with the Santa myth and how important it is to the season, especially children, and also being disgusted with the character himself because of his experiences in the past. Brandon Maggart makes for both a sweet, well-meaning man and a twisted human being out for revenge, and the scary thing is he feel likes his violence and retribution is justified. The controversy is, as is usually the case, completely overblown and reactionary. and the violence is tame and even laughable by today’s standards. I won’t be watching it every Christmas, but it had enough intrigue and suspenseful moments to warrant a single viewing. See more Read all reviews
