In a tiny rural village in Argentina, Rita Lopez, a pious yet insatiably competitive woman, decides that staging a miracle could be her ticket to sainthood. After discovering a lost statue in the back room of her chapel, she convinces her neglected but loving husband to help her orchestrate the grand reveal that will finally anoint her as the most admired woman in town. But before the unveiling, a jarring turn of events illuminates the hidden magic of her world, forcing her to reevaluate everything she once took for granted.

Rene Rodriguez Variety Bustillo’s wit is minimalist without being precious, and although some scenes are not far removed from deadpan Jim Jarmusch absurdity, Rita’s plight becomes more reflective and thoughtful than you initially expect. Jul 5, 2024 Full Review David Ehrlich indieWire Bustillo is too much of a people-pleaser to let the poetry of his visuals speak for themselves, but he’s also skilled enough to ensure that those abstractions effectively deepen the all-too-digestible meaning of the story they exist to refract. Rated: B Jun 27, 2024 Full Review Beatrice Loayza New York Times The visually elegant film can also be overly precious and whimsical, though that might be a virtue by some measures. Jun 27, 2024 Full Review Paula Vázquez Prieto La Nación (Argentina) ... A lucid and fun story about the heavenly aspirations that sometimes hide the most earthly accomplishments. Jul 18, 2024 Full Review Oliver Weir The Film Stage The broader theme of these playful tricks and double meanings is the human need for fictions—those poetic lies which are somehow able to circumvent the dullness and meaninglessness of the world, to bring it into spiritual unity.
