Jul 20, 2023 Full Review Ishmeet Nagpal Common Sense Media The dialogue in Cirkus is poorly written, vast amount of scenes are unnecessarily shot in front of a green screen, and even the celebrated Deepika Padukone's cameo is lackluster. Jun 6, 2023 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix The vibrant cinematography and eye-catching production design of Cirkus are all wasted on a silly plot, bad acting, and an unjustifiably atrocious ending that ignores ethical and legal issues of deliberately switching babies at birth. Jo & Co This movie was a shock to both of us. More especially me (Colin). I had read all the reviews and there was not one that was good or even just 'OK'. All bad and most from India where the movie was made. "One of the worst movies made in 2022" culminating to "....ever!" The dialogue was 99% in Hindu and with English subtitles. Over the 2021 and 2022 we have seen a number of these - all were 'action packed' 'blood and guts' 'hero v. multiple bad ass villains' and the like. "Cirkus" was advertised as a slap stick silly comedy. Based on a comedy from Wm Shakespeare. Well, well. Jo was fed up being in the house all day and despite my protests that we had seen all the movies at our local cinema (some even twice) she said we hadn't seen "Cirkus" and she didn't mind how bad it was. I gave in and we sat in the three hundred seat auditorium along with four others - all from India! The movie is 2 hrs 20 mins long. It is played at a frantic pace and the plot is about two sets of just born identical twin males up for adoption. A research doctor is convinced that blood line has no place in deciding the future of a human being. It matters only how the baby is brought up. So he switches one for another and observes what happens at a distance and notes everything. One set is adopted by a wealthy family and the other set by a family who own a circus. Both families are from different towns and a long way from another. So the chances of them meeting in adult life is remote. Of course they do meet (at the end of the the movie) but not before the other members of the families meet them and of course get them mixed up. Including the wife of one and the fiancee of the other. There is a gang trying to rob one of the two brothers (who really aren't because of the swap). And a father of the rich fiancee who is against the marriage. I won't go further into it but to tell you we both thoroughly enjoyed it and the Indian quartet were laughing out aloud. There is plenty of action, lots of wonderful scenery, much dancing and super music. Neither of us can see why the terrible reviews but can only ascertain they are all written by much younger persons than Jo and I who are so thankful to watch something funny for a change with no hint of vulgarity. It also has a happy ending when all is revealed. The 'circus' is the main backdrop because one of the twins can feel no pain from electrocution and is known as The Electric Man and is the big draw at the circus. However, everytime he is electrified the other twin feels the shocks and if anyone touches him they feel it, too. Well worth a watch and we took one star off because of some of the difficulty in reading the subtitles.
