Alexandra Heller-Nicholas ABC Radio (Australia) Citation is an important window into the gender politics of a culture seemingly very different to our own, but where the nuts-and-bolts sexist dynamics that have oppressed and left women around the world open to abuse remain sadly familiar. Rated: 4/5 Nov 18, 2020 Full Review Tambay Obenson indieWire "Citation" works best when it hovers in the infuriating skepticism hurled at its young protagonist as she makes her case, and it's unclear whether the system will work in her favor until the final, unnerving act. Rated: B Nov 10, 2020 Full Review Nick Levine NME (New Musical Express) Citation deserves credit for handling a complex and emotive issue with sensitivity. Anchored by powerful performances from Otedola and Jean-Louis, it's a flawed but worthwhile watch. Rated: 3/5 May 7, 2021 Full Review Andrea Beach Common Sense Media Slow-moving Nigerian drama about sexual harassment, assault. Rated: 2/5 Dec 2, 2020 Full Review John Serba Decider It has its heart in the right place, but its execution leaves a lot to be desire. Nov 9, 2020 Full Review Daniel Hart Ready Steady Cut Citation brings an emotional account of a victim in a crippling world of rape culture by directing an environment that is suppressed and platforms a world of silence. Audience Member This movie is so cheesy. Yes there are predators out there and it's good to make movies to spread awareness but this was slow and the entire movie you really don't know if the main girl was making it all up or the professor was, so it was hard to have an opinion on who the victim is. Which just made it awkward imo. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member It is a well directed and produced movie with a very sensitive theme. The story is well told and brought to life with an amazing cast. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a well paced movie, filled with properly fleshed out characters operating in a plot structure that doesn't fall apart. The film. is brought to life with a stunning aesthetic and masterful cinematography. The story, although not phenomenal, is good enough to keep you glued to your seat while imparting a thing or two about the subject matter. It's safe to say that Citation is another showing of Kunle Afolayan's prowess as a filmmaker and I'm here for it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member It almost accurately portrayed the abuses a lot female students face in Nigerian universities and west Africa at large Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
