Ben Turner The Pink Lens The acting is compelling, but the story holds back an otherwise solid film from being anything but a casual meander straight down the middle of the road. Jeff M Neither risqué enough to be trashy fun or deep enough to be an earnest drama, if this movie had made up its mind what it wanted to achieve, this could have been something special. This was actually a close call for me, because there are some really great moments here, cinematically and emotionally. There's one shot in particular featuring the interchanging of two characters that was spectacular. But this is textbook example of the sum being less than its parts. One moment feels like something out of a telenovela and the next features narration from the poet talking about tortoises and pebbles in your shoe. And there isn't a lot that feels fresh here despite the central love triangle - particularly the central traditional family unit featuring the overbearing father and the obedient mother. We've seen it a hundred times. This is not a boring movie by any means, in fact I watched parts of it twice trying to make up my mind. But it's not very sexy, it's not very involving, and the character caught between the brother and sister is a sketchily written individual, whose motives are never really defined. In fact, they don't even give the poor guy a name. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review James A Interesting story of a traditional family of India and their two children who stray away from the norm. The movie does not present love, sex and relationships in a superficial manner while harsh realities affect the heroes. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/25/23 Full Review johann m 🇮🇳🏳️‍🌈 This Indian Hindi-language drama film follows a story of a brother and sister who fall in love with the same man and ensuing events shatter a traditional Marathi family. Based on the novel by Sachin Kundalkar, who also wrote and directed the film, it is a harsh and heartbreaking tale about loneliness and fear around same-sex love in the middle of an outdated and injust system in India. It is a quite artistic and authentic film that relies on literature and poetry and art itself to convey feelings of love, despair and sadness.
