Kimber Myers Los Angeles Times There's little fun to be had for the audience other than in some nicely executed special effects. Oct 5, 2017 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety An eccentric mix of veteran actors, Southern Gothicism and neo-noir lends "Cold Moon" a certain charm as a ghostly revenge thriller. Oct 4, 2017 Full Review Anton Bitel Sight & Sound Furst's (maybe) supernatural tale unfolds in a manner that, without exactly breaking any new ground, makes the most of its backwards-looking classicism with a story that is similarly entombed in the past while looking forward to our present day. Aug 15, 2017 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...it’s a little disconcerting to see a film that aims to tell a story from within the mind-set of an active serial killer, but Cold Moon does it and at a fairly breakneck, pulpy pace… Rated: 3/5 Aug 8, 2022 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review I have an affection for swampy horror movies, and Cold Moon is certainly that, with its Southern drawl characters and use of vintage locations. It has a handful of genuinely creepy, bordering on scary, moments, and I like the use of the lead actors. May 14, 2020 Full Review Dan Scully Cinema76 Cold Moon has its moments, but the complete lack of style, tone, and technique leaves it feeling more turgid than a movie about vengeance ghosts should ever be. Saoirse O Man, I had high hopes for this when I saw Christopher Lloyd and Josh Stewart, but it was a huge letdown. The reveal of the killer was WAY too soon, taking all the suspense out of it. It's not a mystery who killed them, it's not a mystery why, it's not a mystery why he's being haunted. And because they took all the mystery out, they half heartedly tried to add some suspense by arresting the wrong man, even though it made....absolutely no sense for them to do so. SPOILERS AHEAD You're telling me grandma was running around telling everyone Nathan did it, and then she turned up dead, with his sword in the trunk and him being the ONLY one to benefit, and no one immediately suspected Nathan??? And instead they suspected the principal, who not only had nothing to gain from killing Grandma and Jerry, but actively was trying to help them convict someone else? That's either genuinely terrible writing or just the world's stupidest townspeople And Nathan being a sociopath, sure, but his little brother just...helped his brother commit/get away with three brutal murders and was just....fine? I'm not convinced these writers have ever met a human being. This had the potential to be a good movie, but you just spend 75% of it annoyed with the characters for being morons because the main "mystery" is given away in the first 10 minutes. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/21/25 Full Review Cassie D It had a lot of potential, particularly with the interwoven relationships of a small town. It was just a let down. It was predictable and there was just no real connection developed to any of the characters. You never had a chance to actually get to know any of them. The "small town sheriff" was at least interesting, but he never went anywhere. I noted that the film is based on a book. I suspect that all the meat of the story was eliminated in an attempt at creating "jump scares" and "atmosphere," bot of which failed. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/05/24 Full Review Audience Member I am reviewing rotten tomatoes and not the movie. Their credibility is questionable to say the least! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/21/24 Full Review DandP Some of these small Independent films aren't too bad. This isn't one of them. One mistake often made is casting a young actor as an old person and then putting a fake gray wig on them. Then they have them act overly dramatic to the point where not only are they not believable they are irritating. A preteen might enjoy this movie and think it's scary, but it's poorly written and acted. We thought it was a terrible waste of time. Some of the actors weren't too bad, but the script and some of the scenes were so unbelievable you had to laugh. One example was the fisherman who pulled the bike out of the muddy water. No fisherman with any brains is going to throw his lure into that sloppy mud hole that was probably a foot deep. It was ridiculous and not well thought out as were many of the scenes. I like to see independent filmmakers be successful, but this film was so poorly done and just irritating to watch. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/25/23 Full Review David C Poor… Not a lot more to be said Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Liam D Much more than a crime mystery supernatural drama than a horror movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/16/22 Full Review Read all reviews
