Audience Member A curious film, slow by modern standards. A sad comedy about a middle-aged conservative businessman who falls in with some summer teenagers and becomes obsessed with Francesca (Spaak). Shave 30 minutes and it would be more palatable; there is much repetition. That said, the black and white photography of Italian locales in 1962 and Ennio Morricone's first score made it worthwhile. Tognazzi plays the wistful businessman with his usual flair. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member i FIRST SAW THIS MOVIE ON PBS NEARLY 45 YEARS AGO - COULDN'T RECALL THE NAME ONLY THAT UGO TOGNAZZI WAS THE LEAD - THEN REMEMBERED IT WELL WHEN LIFE IMITATED ART AND I WENT THROUGH MY OWN MID-LIFE CRISIS - EXCELLENT MOVIE - NOT AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX OR VIA AMAZON - ANYONE KNOW IF THIS IS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Salce was so underrated as a comic stylist, and this fine film has vanished into obscurity except in Italy and Japan. Tognazzi plays a mid-life Italian male having his crisis who bumbles into a group of ditzy youngsters having a summer at a beach cottage. He spends most of the screen time romancing the gorgeous Catherine Spaak and falling deeper and deeper into his romantic dream, until he winds up on a beach in the dawn wearing a Indian headband with sand-soiled feathers... Featured Morricone's debut score, and Gino Paoli crooning "Sassi" to great effect. A minor masterpiece of its black-and-white day.
