A young British man, Simon Willerton (Paul Popplewell), is socially awkward and seems slow-witted, though he's actually quite bright. Unfortunately, Simon's insecurities and quirks unintentionally lead him into a life of crime, with thugs goading him along. Given his inept attempts at theft, he is soon arrested and imprisoned, with apparently no way out. While it seems as though Simon's parents could help, he finds out that they may be just as uncaring as the judicial system.
