Jonathan Rosenbaum Chicago Reader 04/10/2012
As with some of Fellini's late works, the energy and inventiveness, not to mention the juicy vulgarity, are so consistent in Black Cat, White Cat that you feel you can slice into the material at almost any point. Go to Full Review

It's anything but subtle but the magnetism of the cast and sheer exuberance of the storytelling make this fairly irresistible. Go to Full Review
David Stratton Variety 03/26/2009
A colorful, frenetic mixture of slapstick and folklore that stands a good chance of delighting arthouse audiences the world over. Go to Full Review
Gilbert Adair Independent on Sunday 11/27/2017
It's like a novel written entirely in italics, every single sentence of which ends with an exclamation mark. As there are people of whom it's said that they don't know their own strength, Kusturica is a film-maker who doesn't know his own brilliance. Go to Full Review
Ken Fox TV Guide 04/10/2012
3.5/4
There's a surprising warmth and even a little optimism behind Kusturica's gallows humor. Go to Full Review
Total Film 04/10/2012
3/5
It's ridiculous and self-indulgent, but Kusturica is so skilful, conjuring up one sweeping, sumptuous set-piece after another, that you can't help but go along for the ride. Go to Full Review

Timotei H May 23 A slavic masterpiece in every sense. This film has been a must watch my whole life. Watching it the first time when I was about 9. Watching it for the 1000th time at 25, it is just as if not a more enjoyable watch. From the perfect capture of slavic humour to the story itself. As a romani person myself, its even better to actually understand it in our native tongue. The soundtrack is amazing and will have you singing "bubamara" weeks after watching it. This is for sure a must watch. See more Leaburn O 10/21/2024 Kusturica never lets you down if you’re looking for an offbeat Serb/Croat film about gypsies. Another masterpiece from one of the very best Directors of the last 50 years. Not quite Time of the Gypsies brilliant but still a fun, wild, chaotic and amusing ride of irreverence, fantastic music and fine attention to detail. Watched on DVD.
