Audience Member Dabbe: Cin Carpmasi aka Dabbe: The Possession 3.75* I was really pleasantly surprised by this, and I went in with pretty high expectations. It was weird looking at the * breakdown for this movie as it's all over the place... many 1* and lower, many 4* and higher. And lots in between. I read numerous rec's for this on r/horror so finally gave it a shot. And the suggestions were pretty spot on. The gist of them being that this is a low budget found footage that has some nice scares and which keeps you interested throughout. I agree. It has some really nice scares and some pretty creepy scenes. It has a story that decent enough to hold your attention btwn the scares. So overall that's a big success to me given the budget. But the low budget doesn't factor into the 3.75* at all. It earns that rating by scaring me and keeping me on edge while I was interested in the plot. And bc the acting was decent - it was never a distraction for me. But there's too much shaky cam... it's something I can live with given the positives but it gets irritating at times. I'm now wondering if I should my extra time during this quarantine to go through the franchise... or is this movie the lone wolf of the group? If you're a found footage fan I recommend this movie. But even if you aren't, I think this worth the time investment. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Essentially another foreign remake of Paranormal Activity, the Turkish film Dabbe: Bir cin vakasi makes things interesting by substituting the Islamic myth of the Djinn for the Judea-Christian myth of the demon. The film concerns a family suffering from paranormal occurrences who discover that their problems may be the result of an evil Djinn tied to mysterious deaths in another village. Well-made, creepy, and always surprising, this film shows how the found footage genre still has life in it when the filmmakers can think of new twists to add.
