Mortimer Judd (Ralph Lewis) is a cold-hearted businessman who refuses to help his old friend Eugene (Josef Swickard) financially. The distraught, suicidal Eugene disappears, leaving Mortimer a copy of Dante's "The Inferno" to get Mortimer to change his ways. Mortimer reads the poem, but his behavior remains unchanged. As his life falls apart, he attempts to save his suicidal friend, but tragically he finds that he is too late -- and he is charged with murder.
