Kaleem Aftab The List There isn't much in the way of a story in Dark Horse. Indeed, after the lightweight plot has run its course it runs smack bang into a blank wall, one smeared with anti graffiti paint. Rated: 3/5 Nov 3, 2018 Full Review Boyd van Hoeij european-films.net Occasional moments of brilliance, good performances and fun cinematography are obscured by a rather muddled script that does not go anywhere. Audience Member Dagur Kari 06 film oct Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Dark Horse has a touch of the surreal, and yet, ultimately, it's disarmingly easy to connect with, to understand, to empathize. It slides comfortably between clever comedy and deliberate poignancy, taking the unusual route of using comedy to set up and root the characters before smoothly underlaying their situation with drama. This is the kind of film where a parade of elephants suddenly walks past the window of a cafe, or the girl in the bakery is on mushrooms, but it's never so removed from humanity that it feels like a hollow 'indie' film. It balances the silly but astute comedy with observant pieces of real life, and creates characters that it's easy to like and to spend this time with. By the time the film had ended, it was in a totally different place to where it began, and I was ready for it to take me somewhere else, provided I could stay with these people. Full review to come. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member dark horse. a luat premiul juriului cinemagia la tifful de anul trecut. si am fost de acord cu decizia lor. good boy benny! for those who don't really fit in..there is dagur kari! he turns a simple yet beautiful story into something almost magical. after noi albinoi, the story of a smart but socially dysfunctional teen, dagur presents daniel's story, a dyslexic graffiti artist (let's call it that) who seems to be as irresponsible as his girlfriend franc..and his referee wannabe friend, grandpa..oh..and a strange judge that disappears a story of coming of age? not quite..a story about people that don't fit in this society but seem to be attracted to each others..the final image of the movie shows you not only the new family (daniel's) but also the fiats 500 that seem to have found each others.. a movie filmed in black and white with only one image presented in colors..(as noi albinoi is filmed in colors but has several scenes in black and white)..the moment of an awakening maybe.. there is comedy..grandpa the fat referee that wants to break the ten commands in one single day..franc's mother that is more interested in men than her own daughter and ends up being a grandma in more than one way..there is drama..a judge that leaves his wife and daughter after a night of reflection in a hotel. great lines.."Spare me that love-bullshit. Love is useless before the age of 90" that don't just amuse one but also make you ponder about life (bla, bla in a good way). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a Dannish dramatic comedy, featuring a dyslexic graffiti artist (brilliant) and his loser friend, who end up falling in love with the same girl, just as disfunctional as them. Later on, a judge in the middle of a crisis crosses their path. Acting and direction are great overall, it has nice black and white visuals and the script is well constructed, funny, with a more dramatic shift near the end, although the role of the judge in the plot remained slightly obscure to me. It was screened at this year Cannes' Un Certain Regard. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
