Luke Buckmaster Flicks (AU, NZ, UK) Former muscle men like JCVD and Sylvester Stallone certainly look like they’ve big mistakes, insinuations of hard-earned wisdom written in their wrinkles. Jun 23, 2024 Full Review Bobby LePire Film Threat Darkness Of Man may start off confusing, but once it settles down, the thrills come fast and furious. Rated: 8/10 Jun 13, 2024 Full Review Martin Unsworth Starburst The stylish direction from Bressack gives what could have been a throwback action flick a fresh feel and while it might not be up there with JCVD’s best, it provides the actor a chance to show off more than his famous muscles. Rated: 3/5 Jun 3, 2024 Full Review Anton Bitel Projected Figures James Cullen Bressack’s LA-set thriller sends an ageing man of action on a noirish collision course with his own mortality May 25, 2024 Full Review Matt Lynch In Review Online Darkness of Man simply doesn't offer substantive enough material to support much of anything from JCVD, despite his best efforts. The film lands as little more than a somber, self-serious shrug in the DTV sphere. May 24, 2024 Full Review Michael Szymanski Mike Szymanski (Medium) The collaboration of JCB and JCVD winds up with a decent edge-of-your-seat crime drama that essentially defines a modern-day film noir movie. les R This movie was painful to watch. They missed the mark on the theme and it’s hard to look past the acting of not just some, but every character. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/23/24 Full Review Ian H Van Damme has never been a particularly good actor but this is abysmal. Mainly due to the predictable, weak script and poor acting of the thugs throughout. He used to be good for action scenes but even that's not that good. Though, in fairness, he's playing an alcoholic ex-cop. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/02/24 Full Review Cine F This barely holds together. There are a few good fight scenes but competing gang violence with ex cop stuck in the middle trying to keep a promise to a dead ex love just gets muddled. It giving poorly produced 70s tv show episode vibes except it’s a movie. And the lame philosophic dialogue that JCVD keeps spouting is a bit sad. We were hoping for a B movie but got a C movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/22/24 Full Review Fréderic I I really liked this movie, it's a good scenario Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/19/24 Full Review Tom M "Darkness of Man" is a gripping and intense thriller that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. Jean-Claude Van Damme delivers a powerful performance as Russell Hatch, an Interpol operative haunted by past mistakes. The film masterfully combines high-octane action with deep emotional stakes, as Hatch protects an informant's son amidst a brutal gang turf war. The choreography of the action scenes is top-notch, and the story is both compelling and heart-wrenching. With a perfect blend of suspense, drama, and action, "Darkness of Man" is a must-watch for fans of the genre. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/04/24 Full Review david l This is some of the best acting I've seen from JCVD in years. An awesome transition from clean slick kicks to hardcore dirty bone crunching moves. The style is different than anything we've seen from JCVD thanks to the directors new take on action noir. Blending the styles of Neo-noir and action, Darkness of Man delivers a unique film that id love to see more of. Would be great to see other action legends take on similar style films.
