DASHCAM is visually and thematically provocative, although the film's grating protagonist undercuts its effectiveness.

Edward Porter The Times (UK) The blurry, jerky photography is a bit annoying, but the supreme irritant is the woman herself, a childish, potty-mouthed American visitor to the UK. Rated: 1/5 Aug 24, 2022 Full Review Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle Dashcam, unlike few films, relies on your annoyance. Jun 6, 2022 Full Review Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) Dashcam makes a good point: when the whole world’s coming at you through a screen, it becomes increasingly hard to tell the difference between life and entertainment. Rated: 4/5 Jun 3, 2022 Full Review Julian Singleton Cinapse For better or for worse, Savage treats Dashcam like the first and only opportunity he’ll have a budget and scope like this at his disposal—with a lead and pacing that’ll test the limits of even the strongest found-footage diehards. Jul 11, 2025 Full Review Hector A. Gonzalez The Movie Buff DASHCAM is an anarchic disappointment. It has the bloody brigades for gorehounds, except it is haunted by poor camerawork and a completely unlikeable main character. Rated: D Sep 8, 2024 Full Review Kat Halstead Common Sense Media While we've seen plenty of antiheroes over the years and a flurry of "unlikable" female characters in the wake of Fleabag, Annie takes the concept to a whole other level. Paul totally different type of horror movie. I loved it!! And it was funny as heck also. 🤪 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/05/22 Full Review BadNews R Dashcam is a horror film currently streaming on Hulu through the Disney+ app, and it tries to lean into the found-footage formula we’ve seen in films like The Blair Witch Project or even something more modern like Missing. The entire gimmick is that the camera itself is doing most of the work—no cinematic polish, just raw, shaky “real” footage, as if we’re watching someone’s livestream or cell phone cam. The actress at the center of the story is actually pretty funny. She has moments where she’s genuinely hilarious in her delivery, but at the same time, her performance comes across as weak and unconvincing. It’s that strange mix of someone being entertaining in spurts, but not strong enough to carry the film all the way through. The bigger issue, though, is the logic behind the whole setup. The story follows characters running around through chaotic situations, but the more you think about it, the less sense it makes. A dashcam, by definition, is mounted in a car and plugged in—it’s not a handheld device you can run through forests and houses with. Realistically, it would’ve either broken, gotten wet, or simply stayed stuck in the car. The fact that the film keeps pushing it as a constant recording device pulls you out of the immersion quickly. Even as the horror escalates with murders and supernatural chaos, the believability keeps slipping away. Instead of feeling tense, it just starts to feel bogus because your brain is going, “Wait, that’s not how that would work.” Suspension of disbelief only goes so far, and Dashcam doesn’t give you enough grounding to buy into its style. In the end, I just wasn’t a fan. It wasn’t realistic enough to hold my interest, and I never felt truly invested in the characters or the horror. I’ll give it credit for the attempt—trying to reinvent the found-footage angle is always ambitious—but for me, the execution fell flat. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/27/25 Full Review Shannon B. Want to be annoyed? Want to not see what’s going on due to camera work? Want to be left unsatisfied by the characters’ fates? Then this film is for you! You MIGHT be able to have fun watching with friends. Overall not worth watching. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/21/25 Full Review Diet Dr. Paul . Film had potential but the lead was absolutely insufferable! I understand that’s the point in this films case but there are ways to do it effectively ( House of 1000 Corpses & Devils Rejects). If there isn’t a likable protagonist don’t the audience has nothing to latch onto or root for. It’s like hanging out with a friend that you really, really don’t like, except getting out of the situation is as easy as the push of a button! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/05/25 Full Review Dragon B Original, hilarious, scary! Also love all the TRUTH. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/14/25 Full Review Null L I think this movie is fun bad if you watch it with someone else. It isn't without entertainment quality, but there's not a single part of it that is very good. They threw every goofy thing they could think of at the wall for an hour and ten and called it a day Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/14/25 Full Review Read all reviews
