Critics Consensus

The opening's got a great fiery explosion and Stallone puts in another earnest, sympathetic performance, but all else in Daylight feels designed to annoy the audience into submission.

Lisa Schwarzbaum Entertainment Weekly Rated: C Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Todd McCarthy Variety A lower-echelon disaster thriller, in which the best character is knocked off early on and the leading man runs out of ideas with a third of the picture still to go. Big, efficient, mindless entertainment. Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 10, 2020 Full Review Adam Sandel Santa Cruz Sentinel As Daylight and other recent thrillers prove, it's much easier to create synthetic disasters, tornadoes, dinosaurs and dragons than it is to create sympathetic, believable human beings. Jelisije J A very entertaining disaster movie that kept your attention throughout the films run time. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/24/24 Full Review larrykohut L Sylvester Stallone starts in a diaster movie where he helps a group of people get to higher ground and does his best to Kee everyone alive . The storyline is there's a huge flood that's causing a lot of people in the city to drown . So Stallone helps people find a way out of there so they can live and get to safety . It's a decent diaster movie . The action is good at times and you can grasp the storyline pretty well. But it's definitely not better then the day after tomorrow . Parents guide / Christian perspective Violence : moderate violence and peril involving waves of water . Few people die in this film from drowning and a few kids get slight injuries . Possibly 1 or 2 explosions . Language : several uses of hell and damn . One or two sobs and an ass . Two gd words and 1 JC word. No f words though . Sex : none Nudity : none Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/24/24 Full Review Blu B It's pretty standard stuff when it comes to disaster movies. The music is super forgettable. There is too many forgettable one dimensional characters that don't get enough devlopment. The first 20 minutes with the explosion is really good and the special effect and set design are the best things in this. But after that it slows down and never regains the franticness of the start with a lot of scenes that drag or are just boring. It feels like stuff just happens as they get out and Stallone really is in only half the film and doesn't get much backstory. What's weird is a lot of scenes just feel like they drag on even the Stallone only ones. Besides that yeah it's pretty standard by the book stuff of the disaster movie genre. Unless your a die hard Stallone fan most people should skip this. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Daniel M Definitely a unique story that felt relatable since we take that tunnel all the time in NYC. It had some thrilling moments. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/30/23 Full Review Michael W This disaster movie was great. Sylvester Stallone, Amy Brenneman, Viggo Mortensen, Jay O. Sanders, Sage Stallone, Danielle Harris, Stan Shaw, Colin Fox, and the rest of the cast did a great job in this movie. The plot of the movie was intense, dramatic, and insane. It's about doing everything you can to save people trapped underground and bringing them home alive. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It's worth watching. Don't listen to the bad reviews this movie has gotten, everyone that said that this is a bad movie has terrible tastes in movies. They can't see why this is a great movie.
