Sebastian Zavala Kahn Más Gamers It's a pity. A "Dead Space" movie had the potential of being truly scary, but that's not the case of "Dead Space: Downfall". Nov 7, 2008 Full Review Steve Dread Central There's nothing bright and sunny about Dead Space: Downfall. It's brutal, unrelenting, and savage. Bodies are torn, eviscerated, and mutilated ... This is no kids' show. Rated: 4.5/5 Oct 21, 2008 Full Review Read all reviews

Bogdan M Dead Space Downfall falls short of expectations, delivering an okay-ish experience at best. While attempting to expand upon the game's universe, the execution lacks the intensity and depth found in the game. The animation and storytelling feel lackluster, failing to capture the same level of horror and suspense. Overall, it's a forgettable addition to the Dead Space franchise. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/18/24 Full Review Audience Member As visceral as it is visually, it helps drive the psychological undertone of contagious insanity. What you see unfold before your eyes is the story of normal behavior from people caught in what could have been a very normal situation. What do people do when rational minds tell you to focus on your work an something just doesn't add up yet? Nobody who still has their sanity lasts long once it starts to slip. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member It works more as a companion piece to the videogame than a standalone. Adult animation is not as common so I will take whatever its out there. This one is gory and gets the vibes right. Story is conventional and predictable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review tim g Man, I wanted to like this one. I really enjoyed the Dead Space series, and I thought it would be interesting to see how the story played out in this prequel. But good God, the animation is an atrocity. It looks terrible, and there are a lot of inconsistencies (for example: there's one guy who wears glasses, and it took me about two seconds to realize that there it was just two lenses stuck onto his face-- no frames or anything). I think "careless" is the word I'd use. The voice acting is laughable at times, the story is really predictable (beyond what can be excused by the fact that it's a prequel and I already know what happens in the end), and the story is bland. At times, it's also inconsistent with the game (for example, SPOILER, when the captain dies-- it isn't at all the same as the video log we see of the incident in the game). The RIG system in the movie is also inconsistent. There were many times when people were being attacked and were clearly taking damage, yet it didn't show up on the RIG, as it does in the games. It just seems like whoever made this movie didn't play much of the games. The characters are completely forgettable, except for the very few who show up in the game. There are a few plot holes and continuity errors-- for example, there's one guy who is restrained to a hospital bed in one scene, and the next time we see him, he's free, and there's no explanation. There's also a lot of stupidity with the action scenes, with that old trope of people being selectively deaf and not reacting to things when they should. For example, one person gets loudly and slowly cut in half and screams, and her whole team is standing around like 20 feet away and don't realize anything's happening until like 5 seconds after her body hits the ground. I guess if you're a big fan of the series, you might get a kick out of seeing how things supposedly went down, but it's kind of a chore to watch. Wouldn't recommend. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The voice acting, pacing, animation and intimidating violence make this low-budget adaptation a fun but forgettable ride. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member An animated prequel to the videogame, it tells the tale of how the Ishimura came to be stranded out in deep space. It doesn't really add much to the lore, even though it's been over a decade since I played the game. The story telling and characters aren't very compelling. While there are some gruesome animation moments, for the most part its not very good. The CG elements are particularly abrasive. Even as a horror story it comes up short. I'm glad it was short, cuz that was a waste. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
