Jeffrey M. Anderson Combustible Celluloid It just goes to show that, even though a maverick may not be polished or professional, if given his own prerogative, he can deliver something truly unique, and - in its own odd way - special. Rated: 3/4 Oct 14, 2020 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Corbett's gruff and obtuse Sandy is a throwback to the classic cinematic renditions of private detective noir, and it's easy to see Fuller channeling Sam Spade or Philip Marlowe, though this modernized composite is a bit rough around the edges. william s Maybe the worst film I have ever seen.Strained to keep watching but an hour in I had had enough. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Sam Fuller got an opportunity to direct an episode of "Tatort," and it seems like he ran with it and treated it like his playground. Unfortunately, while it has plenty of vivid and amusing vignettes it doesn't really coalesce. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member A striking new print at UCLA. A full house. A really dull and quite inept film. DEAD PIGEON ON BEETHOVEN STREET is the only film Sam Fuller directed between 1967 and 1980. It's a mess of a film that makes one ask, "have these filmmakers ever seen a movie?" Made me totally re-evaluate my feelings about Fuller and finally realized, except THE NAKED KISS, his work is fairly mediocre. He pushed the boundaries of subject matter in the 50s but the filmmaking is always quite empty. Another icon shot down by a poor later work.
