Critics Consensus

Despite a handful of decent jolts and Maggie Q's committed performance, Death of Me's intriguing premise is undone by its listless and largely scare-free execution.

It starts out with a weird echo of the Hangover movies, then morphs into a variation on classic horrors such as The Wicker Man and even Rosemary's Baby - but with none of the dark impish wit that you'd hope for with borrowings like those. Go to Full Review

A movie that takes a fresh idea and decides that the best way to present it is through tropes and clichés from better films. Go to Full Review
Guy Lodge Variety 10/02/2020
Bousman's film pulls off some effectively nasty jolts and jabs: its feverish, whispery, eventually shrieking island-of-lost-souls claustrophobia may be rooted in cliché, but cliché takes root for a reason. Go to Full Review

Death of Me is a mind-bogglingly tedious bit of vaguely racist horseshit that is devoid of chills, thrills, or even cheap gore. Go to Full Review

Familiar faces find themselves stranded and confused in an unfamiliar land. A new film and new style from director Darren Lynn Bousman, which is effective but somewhat problematic. Go to Full Review

Takes an intriguing and slightly disturbing initial premise and then proceeds to do nothing of interest with it. Go to Full Review

Jelisije J Jun 13 A movie that kept me interested throughout it run time because I was trying to figure out what in the hell was going on. Does the movie make sense? Kinda, but its so ridiculous with so many plot holes that you cant help but shake and scratch your head throughout the films run time. See more Arisa V 10/11/2024 What a disaster movie. I don't know why it's rated so poorly. I didn't like the ending, though. See more Jeffrey P 06/25/2023 Fairly decent horror mystery in a foreign land. Maintains the intrigue throughout by not including any unnecessary details. See more Read all reviews
