vuesguk This movie soooooo Boring Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/25/23 Full Review While lacking in some essential dialogue, this movie hits the mark in so many other ways. The symbolism is thoughtful and meaningful (discovery of the father's photograph signaling a hidden life) (The capture and release of the moth signifying a possible hope of change) (the reference to a mermaid/water nymph a' la Rusalka and the name of the cigarettes smoked by the boys) (the pursuit of the deer exemplifying a fruitless effort) are just a few of the coincidences that make the clichés more than just clichés This movie must be watched repeatedly to pick up all the nuances. Too many people who only want to watch and not feel, miss out on so much of the context. The script is superb in accentuating the acting agility of the major characters without making it obvious the are merely actors. Each identifies with their respective characters And Phenix Brossard is just so damn hot! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/13/22 Full Review isla s I liked the cinematography and the musical score in this film - it felt like quite a gentle and poignant film to an extent, depicting two adolescent, teenage boys expressing their emotions in a way perhaps not expected of people their age. Indeed there's something poetic about it - the mix of classical/instrumental music and the camerawork focussing on the expressions the characters give and semi imagined scenes at time. It should perhaps be said that there are clearly sex references and more specifically depictions of masturbation, which may embarrass some and as far as thats concerned, its not so 'gentle' maybe but its certainly not something seen in an entirely exploitative way a lot in every scene. I liked the eye contact, the character development between the 2 teenagers and learning more about their circumstances via the discussions they have and the body language. The performance by Alex Lawther is particularly memorable. One of the teenagers is French, so there is a fair bit of French language present, hence its partially subtitled. I thought this was a quite well made film and so yes, I'd recommend it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Surprisingly effective tale of three lonely people at a crisis in their lives. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review mike s Nice setting but weak story - nothing special at all. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautifully shot and well put together, but a budding potential romance between a young couple never quite flowers, and a dramatic subplot involving parents threatens to swamp the movie and drown Juliet Stevenson. Very nice turn by the lead actor. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Finbar Lynch is affectingly spiky as the all-but-absent husband whose presence feels more like a void, but Stevenson steals the show as the woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Rated: 3/5 May 22, 2016 Full Review Steve Rose Guardian The dynamics are given plenty of time to play out in this delicate, somewhat laboured character drama, which could almost be seen as a hymn to the great British art of not really talking about stuff. Rated: 3/5 May 19, 2016 Full Review Anna Smith Empire Magazine A sensitive, sensual and occasionally amusing portrait of teenaged obsession with a winning turn from Lawther. Rated: 4/5 May 19, 2016 Full Review Ben Turner The Pink Lens Beautifully shot in a stunning location, the characters' behaviour somehow make the place ugly, serving as a stark reminder that a place is only as beautiful as the people perceiving it. Rated: 4/5 Sep 2, 2021 Full Review Leo Brady AMovieGuy.com Departure is a complex, coming of age story, which is at times poetic, and an emotional drama. Rated: 3/4 Feb 7, 2021 Full Review Ryan Morris Film Inquiry Ultimately, Departure doesn't do anything that hasn't been done before, and what it does do isn't enough for us to overlook that.
