Critics Consensus

Fast paced and teeming with slapstick gags, Despicable Me 4 is as overstuffed as a piñata but full of enough candy to give audiences an enjoyable sugar rush.

Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) The biggest problem with Despicable Me 4 is that it isn't The Minions Movie 2. Aug 15, 2024 Full Review Zaki Hasan San Francisco Chronicle Talk about despicable. Jul 30, 2024 Full Review Ed Potton Times (UK) Yet it’s saved by the trademark mischief and exuberance of Illumination, the French animators who are as integral to the franchise as Steve Carell’s vaguely Slavic voice acting. First L Still a fun series but 3rd best Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review SK Not to bad it was enjoyable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/17/24 Full Review Nicolas While it may not be as good as the first two Despicable Me movies, Despicable Me 4 is a slight improvement from the 3rd movie. However, just like most of the Despicable Me movies, including the Minions spin off movies, the writing isn’t really the strongest as this 4th installment of the Despicable Me franchise doesn’t really have a main story to tell, but it rather packs many subplots. But what makes up for it though is the engaging action scenes, some good comedy, great voice acting (especially Steve Carell as Gru & Will Ferrell as Maxime), and a great ending (I won’t discuss it though due to spoiler reasons). And just like most of the films by Illumination, this is the type of movie where it is meant to be watched to have fun. Despicable Me 4 is another good example of a crowd pleaser, where it delivers what audiences want to see in a Despicable Me movie, rather than satisfy critics with thought-provoking writing & storytelling. Overall, I had a great time watching the 4th Despicable Me movie. I’m going to rate it a 7/10. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review Char H It’s a great movie. The kids loved it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review Chris B watched this w my favorite girl ever so 5 stars Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Anonymous Love it!
