Critics Consensus

Melodramatic and weighed down with silly dialogue, Deuces Wild is a forgettable, overheated thriller that leaves no cliche unturned.

Loren King Chicago Tribune 07/24/2014
Maybe if the movie had left all the expensive period artifacts, and most of the hackneyed script, on the street corner and let its capable young cast loose, Deuces Wild would have offered the audience a more interesting game. Go to Full Review

A repellent orgy of gratuitous violence and hackneyed melodrama, Deuces Wild marks a grim nadir for everyone involved. Go to Full Review

It not only promotes every stereotype and invokes every clich of Brooklyn lore, it combines them all into an insulting composite, fuses that to the chrome-and-fins of the pointless Fifties, and then -- weirdly -- pretends it's Shakespeare. Go to Full Review

It's full of sound and fury, and the ensemble tries hard, but mob boss Fitzy has it right: They're just kids who need to grow up. Go to Full Review

This clichd tale of combative Brooklyn street gangs in the late 1950s gets it so wrong in so many ways, it's almost cruel to count them. Go to Full Review

Jake S. @JShear2028 Jul 22 I never understood why this movie gets so much hate. Does it reinvent the wheel? No it doesn’t, but it’s a very enjoyable film with a pretty stacked class that includes Stephen Dorff, Matt Dillon, Norman Reedus, Frankie Muniz, Drea de Matteo, Fairuza Balk, James Franco, Johnny Knoxville, Deborah Harry, and more. I love it.
