nicolas b For me as a german the world cup 2006 wasn't really a fairytale. So I can't really see why this movie exists. But its well executed and perfectly watchable when you're german. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member German filmmaker and football fan Sönke Wortmann followed the German football national team on its way to the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The film covers both the preparation and the actual tournament. In a very emotional way Wortmann closely captures intimate moments from players, coaches and other contributors and perfectly shows the ever-present passion and euphoria within the country back then. It follows the players in their hotel rooms, to tactical meetings and even in the locker rooms and you get an idea what happens in their minds. I'm Austrian and therefore German is the natural rival and especially when it comes to football I don't have much sympathy for them but even I have to admire their professionalism. You get such a close look at them - you can't help but starting to like them. That's quite an achievement. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting for an insight into the German mentality (the part where they talk about the living conditions affecting the personality of the Costa Ricans before their first game is perfect) if nothing else. The players are pretty anonymous. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member I don't know what to say... I watched a documentary in Germany without a subtitle but it still possessed the power to blow me away! All my best memories from WC2006 became so vivid in front of my eyes that my heart ached... A must-see for any Mannschaft fan! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing movie, well documented. Shows the German heart for football, and how even though they may have lost out for the fight for gold, Germany still stands behind their team no matter what.
