Eddie Miller (Robert Forster) has spent his life traversing the roads of Pennsylvania, selling diamonds and jewelry to small shops. After a heart attack makes him an insurance risk, his company informs Eddie that it's time he trains his replacement, Bobby Walker (Donnie Wahlberg), a coarse, brash young man with no sales experience. What to Know

Critics Consensus

Robert Forster's tour-de-force performance, along with Daniel M. Cohen's sensitive direction and subtly shaded screenplay, brings rare heft to this mentor/protégé buddy film.

The movie is warmed by a fine sense of place and the lovingly elaborated detail of the salesman's life. Go to Full Review

Wahlberg looks like a rising star, while the seasoned Forster manifests his usual sober authority and approachable masculinity. Go to Full Review

Sacrificing excellent characters to an ultimately lame payoff, Diamond Men's potential as a diamond in the rough turn out to be more 'rough' than 'diamond.' Go to Full Review

It's a little movie with a great big selling point: Robert Forster's subtly nuanced and effortlessly engaging portrayal of Eddie Miller. Go to Full Review

05/26/2021 Solid performances in what, I guess, is a character study because there isn't much of a plot. It's mostly about a couple of diamond salesmen, one a mentor to the other, and the situations they get into that are.... situational as they visit various jewelers, motels, bars, and a brothel while on the road until something goes wrong. It knows what it is, which is why it's probably better and easier to watch and review than more ballyhooed movies that think they're something else or something more. See more Frances H 01/22/2015 Warmly human character based indie whose poster here is nothing like the actual film itself--a refreshing movie for grownups. See more 09/26/2012 This low-budget buddy film may lack punch or edginess, but owing to the charm of the intergenerational bonding at the warm heart of the story and the mentor-protege dynamic between its two charming leads, Diamond Men turns out to be a mildly pleasant film that means well, and is made all the more worthwhile for its fantastically satisfying ending. See more 03/11/2012 Robert Forster's subtle "nice guy" performance in "Diamond Men" is one of the main reasons to watch the film, if not the only reason. Donnie Wahlberg is likable in his supporting role and the script offers some fine twists, but there is nothing here that engages or involves viewer. Cohen's direction and script hold up for the most part, but neither is very solid. See more 03/06/2012 i love donnie in this movie. I really dont think i would recomend this to anyone. See more 09/11/2011 A little uneven in tone and pace, but made largely enjoyable by a well written script and Robert Forster. See more Read all reviews
