Suprateek A I got to watch the Zoya Akhtar directorial Dil Dhadakne Do and I have a lot of thoughts regarding this film. Initially I kind of found it difficult to root for the characters but as the movie progressed I was rooting for them like hell. The characters are all flawed and I just loved it, my favorite character was Ayesha played superbly by Priyanka Chopra and the lovely dog Pluto Mehra! I personally loved how Ayesha's character was dealt with, her character had a lot of maturity, showcased a sense of genuine vulnerability and due to that we can't help feel bad for her throughout the film. Can I just say how much I despised Maanav? -played by Rahul Bose-and his mother?? I hated them so much that I just wished that they died. The narrator role in the initial minutes kinda pissed me off but when I found out that it was the dog I kind of liked it. As much as I liked the thoughts expressed through the dog, it kind of felt like lazy exposition which I didn't see it coming from a filmmaker like Zoya. But nevertheless I loved Pluto. I love how satirical this film got when it needed to because it lands really well and is hilarious too. Not to be sexist but considering the fact that the director was a woman she was able to express the pain that women go through while in a relationship really well. Coming to the performances oh boy! I loved all of them so much! Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh were so believable as siblings and weren't too melodramatic. I think this was the first time that I actually liked a Ranveer Singh performance. Anil Kapoor and Shefali Shah are just so good in their roles, especially Shefali Shah with her big expressive eyes just won my heart. Rahul Bose for acting really well as an asshole and I genuinely hated him. Special mention to Aamir Khan for doing a brilliant job as the narrator/ Pluto because he won my heart with that. Finally, I feel like this film is very underrated and has entered my favorite feel good movies list. One family in particular is upset they were not on the invite list but thanks to some strings being pulled all of them are gathered Now the rest of these relatives have to work out their own personal so issues if they can survive the trip To some divorce is taking the easy way out, marriages can be difficult but some things can still be fixed, it isn’t a race you need to finish, is your career more of the focus or your spouse?, doesn’t matter if there’s water around us we all sail together, parents have to come to realize sooner or later their children must live on their own terms, animals can’t change their behavior but man has the power to change, how can we have peace in this world if we are always at each other’s throats?, we should never have the authority to allow our loved ones to have or can’t have certain things These characters feel so real that they could very much be any dysfunctional family that’s gone through this sort of ordeal There’s a 1920’s flapper sequence that I saw was very creative and had a neat beat to it The entire setting on this cruise ship also gives the film a relaxing, exotic feel and the melodrama comes in all directions If you ever had to deal with pesky relatives always sticking their noses in everyone’s lives while on vacation then this is a Bollywood movie worth checking out Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/30/23 Full Review Asad A Powerful acting, fantastic screenplay, flows like a river of honey Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/11/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is exactly like the cruise that forms its charming setting - a pleasant vacation made memorable by unavoidable family dynamics that press themselves upon you.
