Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times Without a strong political point (unlike its source material), "Dog Pound" feels hollow and hopeless. Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 28, 2013 Full Review David Fear Time Out Neither the film's bark nor its bite leaves much of a mark. Rated: 2/5 Mar 26, 2013 Full Review Joseph Jon Lanthier Slant Magazine The plot willfully denies our satisfaction, often at the risk of compromising its own structural integrity. Rated: 2.5/4 Mar 25, 2013 Full Review James McMahon NME (New Musical Express) The thing that's so audacious about Dog Pound is how wholesale its plot, tonality and execution is lifted from Scum. Rated: 2.5/5 May 20, 2021 Full Review Frank Lovece Film Journal International Overheated melodrama of inmates at a juvenile detention facility hits all the prison-movie clichés. emily m So I thought the dark themes and incidents were rally realistic and the whole movie was very emotional. But although the footage seems very true to real life happenings it's a little too much in some parts. This includes the sa scene being very good at makings one's stomach churn. It was not one of my favorite but it isn't bad. I wish there were more plot/dialogue to balance what was rough to watch in some spots. This movie isn't for those who get sick easily. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/27/23 Full Review Desyane M Cool lines, solid scenes, simple filmatography. Great characters built. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/14/23 Full Review decadepast d Basically a horror film. Probably one of the best of it's kind. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/04/23 Full Review Gareth D A rough watch, but does not have the visceral intensity of Scum or the sharp political commentary. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Joel C A pretty decent look inside the juvenile institution system. The actors all did well and the film has an overall realistic feel to it. The filmmaking reflects the environment with raw shooting and clinical lighting, but at the same time never gets in the way of the story. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/16/21 Full Review Matthew W In this obvious US remake of the classic Brit borstal flick "Scum", Kim Chapiiron directs a hard hitting if watered down & far less brutal version of the horrors faced inside a young offenders institution, with inmates battling for supremacy.
