Doña Herlinda y su hijo, analized like a isolated film is simple, with low budget, bad kinda super 8 quality and terribly bad acted. But seen historically, it was a mexican gay film pioneer. Jaime Humberto Hermosillo portraits not only the scarily two-faced society and the 80's life of Guadalajara but also the way homosexuality was treated in a family ambiance in which love is victim of the moral values. Se ve que la hicieron con tres pesos y los peores actores del mundo aunque eso también le da puntos extras (de comedia involuntaria). Fuera de eso, la historia es potente y el personaje de Herlinda una fascinante mezcla de madre amorosoa y monstruosa. Un retrato maravilloso de la cultura de provincia en los ochenta y su manera de afrontar el amor prohibido.
