Susan H Still thinking about this film five days after viewing it. Firstly, what an incredible artist Ike Reilly is. This film captures his talent, his heart and soul, his commitment to his family, and his unwavering dedication to his craft—poetry, song-writing and musical artistry. This film is a gift to music lovers and the human spirit. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/25 Full Review Delaney K A film that reminds you of the pockets of brilliance hidden in every corner of the world, and the beauty of life even when it's sung in a different key. As a fellow Lake County suburbanite, learning about Ike reminds me to make meaning of my surroundings, and to costume your life in a way that no matter where you are, you can still be a rockstar. I'm stunned by the fact that there was such artistic brilliance taking place only 30 minutes away from me! It makes me think of all of the great things that are constantly happening, and what an honor it is to live inside someone else's world for a moment. Life is not a linear story, and there are so many ways to measure what it means to be "successful", and this film reminds us of that oft forgotten fact so brilliantly. Not only that, but it is so well structured in narrative, using quintessential songs from his catalogue as markers for big chapters in his life. It's honest yet sincere, like all great documentaries should be. I feel like I left with such a well rounded understanding of who Ike is, and he's never even interviewed in the movie! I'm so glad I got to see a premiere of this and see him perform right after. I'll never forget it. An inspiring "underdog" story Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/25 Full Review margie m Great documentary about a gifted artist and songwriter whose music has not attained the commercial success he deserves. The movie chronicles his career, incredible music and family life. Gritty and raw at times, it leaves the viewer wanting more of his music and championing for his success. There are many definitions of wealth, and Ike is rich with talent and unconditional love from his beautiful family. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/25 Full Review Lou H Pretty incredible rock & roll saga told in a very compelling style. It never gets boring, as the layers of the story unfold. Fortunately for the directors, Ike Reilly maintained a deep archive of performances throughout his decades long career, which they use to masterfully weave together this unlikely tale of a rock n roller. Ike seemed to have flipped off stardom to for family life. Then he took his awesome family along for the rock rollercoaster ride. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/23/24 Full Review Carroll S Such a great movie. Doesn’t make sense Ike didn’t make it bigger. I’m a huge fan!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/19/24 Full Review Jeff M Loved this. If you are already a fan of Ike Reilly like I am, you will be even more captivated by this behind the scenes view into his backstory, friends and family through archived footage and interviews. If this is your first introduction to him, you are in for a treat. His music and storytelling are deeply authentic but hard to stuff into an obvious genre. A good description I've heard is what Bob Dylan would have sounded like if he grew up listening to The Clash rather than Woody Guthrie. Five stars.
