Audience Member Myself and my partner, who considers herself a feminist, loved it. We're keen walkers, If you are city folk who have no experience of this type of thing (like the critics) or don't know what men of a certain age go through, this film is not for you. Don't to be too PC about it,most of us aren't any better to be honest, they've all got problems and I can emphasise 100%. Doing this type of thing in crappy weather is challenging to say the least. They're human, as far as I recognise, I don't judge any of them. I love this film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member This was horrible !Love Will & Julia BUT !! WAS SURPRISE AT HOW DULL AND.BOREN. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the better excuses in recent years to use a handheld camera style - and it's not 'found footage'! This is a decent enough character driven comedy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite being low budget with a couple of continuity errors, all can be forgiven as the story, acting and scenery is fantastic. Kevin Maher Times (UK) A sweetly maudlin directorial debut from James Rouse, it features winning turns from Richard Lumsden (as team leader Gordon), Karl Theobald (as best buddy about to drop a bombshell Keith) and Ned Dennehy (as drunken spice Julian). Rated: 4/5 Jun 10, 2014 Full Review Geoffrey Macnab Independent (UK) Torben Betts' screenplay for this engaging, quintessentially British road/rambling movie combines knockabout comedy with surprisingly bleak observations about the way the men's lives have all veered off course. Rated: 3/5 May 29, 2014 Full Review Mike McCahill Guardian A grey, farty plod, with increasingly little to sustain it bar the scenery. Rated: 2/5 May 29, 2014 Full Review David Aldridge Radio Times Downhill is a home-grown treat, and the perfect solution to anyone seeking an alternative to the preponderance of overblown blockbusters on screens big and small. Rated: 3/5 Jun 10, 2014 Full Review Mark Adams Screen International The transition from comedy to gently revelatory drama is nicely handled in James Rouse's engaging low-budget film. Jun 10, 2014 Full Review Rich Cline Contactmusic.com It's extremely rare for a low-budget mock-documentary to come together as well as this scruffy little British comedy.
