Linda Lee Drag All in all this film is great fun. It presents a lively (and probably accurate) picture of Victorian society and gives us a chance to see a fine actress portraying feelings that most of us have had as our feminine sides were released. May 10, 2022 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...an original idea which actually does raise some questions about Victorian male hypocrisy... Rated: 4/5 Feb 17, 2021 Full Review Joe Lipsett Bloody Disgusting Not only is this a really attractive looking film, complete with some great visual tricks by director Baker, it is a great example of an old film that raises a lot of political/sexual questions for audiences to consider. This isn't a safe, simple film Feb 22, 2020 Full Review John Higgins Starburst It is Martine Beswick who steals the show. Audience Member Clever and original concept flawlessly executed. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member One of my top favorite Hammer horror films. Finally found a copy on DVD! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member A top drawer performance by Ralph Bates and a good twist on the genre. Its all very typical Hammer stuff, so much to enjoy! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member loved the this gender bennder Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member If you find this film in a TV guide, there's a good chance that you probably laughed at the very idea, but there's also a good chance that you might have wanted to see it as a result. That's what happened with me, but I quickly found that the original poster for the film was much better than the real thing. The film itself actually looks quite outdated. It was made in 1971, but it looks like something that could have been made a decade earlier. The story is quite ridiculous, and it's not as bold as it could have been. The writers also seem to have a fundamental lack of understanding of how hormones work. Then again, this is set in an era where science was still quite skewed by today's standards. The characters aren't exactly great, and the special effects have aged terribly. Overall, it's a very disappointing Hammer flick with more spills than thrills. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review paul b A clever & twisted take on the classic tale with a great central performance by Ralph Bates, great special effects albeit slightly let down by a contrived ending.
