Audience Member Back in the Golden Age of horror cinema in the 1930's and '40's, we saw movies about both the son and daughter of Bram Stoker's greatest literary creation. I guess it was only a matter of time before we got down to his ex-wife, and even though "Dracula's Widow" has a certain retro feel to it, it clearly does not live up to its esteemed legacy. The soundtrack is filled with saxophone solos, the characters smoke cigarettes by the dozen and refer to women as "dames", but just because it feels nostalgic doesn't mean it should be lumped in with the other classics. You would expect shoddy direction from a movie like this but not from the name Coppola, so it would seem that Christopher is from the shallow end of the gene pool. This is wickedly boring, with some of the worst dialogue I've heard from a B-movie in a while. Still, even worse are the two lead performances, which would have been funny if the rest of this wasn't so dull. Sylvia Kristel and Lenny Von Dohlen are ridiculously campy, and the look more like they're from a '80's new wave band than vampires. Everything they do and say is dramatized to the point of hilarity, so much so that it's almost like watching a soap opera. There's a decent amount of mostly convincing special effects, which is a small saving grace if there ever was one. "Dracula's Widow" definitely has some style going for it, but the story is full of unanswered questions and it's not really worth following anyway. It certainly doesn't live up to the names Dracula or Coppola. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie was so bad I actually started to like it. Not love it, but it made me laugh a lot. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Some movies are better left in the past because after watching this again I don't know what I was thinking. The acting is hokey especially from Sylvia Kristel and Schnabel and von Dohlen (which I have a suspicion is the main reason I liked it due to Electric Dreams and Twin Peaks) is completely ineffective as the effeminate lead. If you liked this growing up then do yourself a favor and don't ever watch it again. Trust me. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member This is fantastically hilarious and gory! Top-notch bad acting and awkward moments make this a hidden gem for the month of Halloween. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member (* 1/2): Thumbs Down Rather cheesy but I guess I've seen worse... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Ahhh......1988....What a great year and a time of some classic movies. Well, this would not be one of them. Sylvia Kristel was known for her sex films back then and being so sultry. They uglied her up in this movie. Unknown cast and with good reason. Overacting and ridiculous special effects just made this laughable. I love 80's horror but this was a stinker. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews
