Critics Consensus

Duplicity is well-crafted, smart, and often funny, but it's mostly more cerebral than visceral and features far too many plot twists.

Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Not highly recommended at all. Rated: D Sep 12, 2017 Full Review Jordan Hoffman UGO It's not unfair to say that Duplicity is Michael Clayton on laughing gas. What's remarkable is that both movies pretty much work. Rated: B+ Aug 14, 2009 Full Review Sukhdev Sandhu Daily Telegraph (UK) It's good to see an espionage thriller that avoids the clichés of the genre. Rated: 3/5 Apr 23, 2009 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review That Gilroy refuses to limit the story to just one focus in desire for something more intricate makes his film complex while also being a light, entertaining treat. Rated: 3.5/4 Dec 2, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Tries to be too smart for its own good. Rated: 4/10 Nov 28, 2020 Full Review Jason Best Movie Talk Duplicity revisits the world of corporate skulduggery Gilroy explored in Michael Clayton, and throws in a spot of Bourne spycraft, but its mood is far far lighter than those films' sweaty intensity and muscular action. Ams T Mind boggingly stupid direction. Story stretched at places to make it look for smarter and slick than it really is. Acting from the 2 lead actors was the only good thing about this movie. Story was a disaster.. there’s 2 hours of my life I am not getting back Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/25 Full Review Alain E Entertaining. A little more convoluted that was necessary. Great acting by Clive Owen and Julia Roberts. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/17/25 Full Review Audience Member I liked this. Lots of little twists and great acting. Fun little movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/06/25 Full Review Steve K Utterly shocked at the negative reviews don’t believe it for a second. If you like movies with a lot of twists and an ending you won’t predict this is the movie. Throw in a top notch performances with Julia Roberts and Clive Owens, along side a tremendous supporting cast - you get a can’t miss movie. Somehow I didn’t see this when it first came out, so glad to have stumbled upon this joy of a movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/02/24 Full Review Kyle M Don't expect this as your average espionage in linear sense. Its impressively-crafted structure refines non-linear narrative to the point of stretching it thin in declining momentous strength with maintained intelligence intentionally weaving behind the choices made for differential significance. That's secondarily entertaining behind Clive Owen and Julia Robert's electric chemistry participating through unexpected turns in debatably weighed satisfaction. (B) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/14/24 Full Review Rosana B Muito bom… Excelente... Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews
