Pieter-Jan Van Haecke Psychocinematography By echoing the atomic fears within the post-war society, Sekizawa avoids Ebirah merely being a reworked copy of his previous narratives. Jul 13, 2023 Full Review Bob Chipman Escapist Magazine A lot of people put this one on the low-end of the series, but I have fun with it. May 22, 2019 Full Review Witney Seibold Nerdist Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster is... not so great. It feels small and trifling and, well, a bit dumb. May 21, 2019 Full Review Tina Hassannia Not Coming to a Theater Near You Exemplifies the peak of the Godzilla franchise's tonal shift into campy, fun territory, a phenomenon that reflected the series' absorption of 1960s Western pop-culture influences. May 14, 2019 Full Review Tim Brayton Antagony & Ecstasy A decent film at best, a flimsy and uninvolving film at worst, and a discouraging sign that the days of Godzilla as a serious, interesting threat were now officially dead and buried. Rated: 5/10 Dec 10, 2013 Full Review Steve Biodrowski Cinefantastique This is one of the silliest but also one of the more amusing Godzilla movies. Apr 11, 2009 Full Review Read all reviews

Rich A Spoilers fantastic now watching it years later it makes sense this was going to be a King Kong movie right after King Kong vs Godzilla and based loosely off the King Kong Show! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/24 Full Review Chanr3y k The movie has such a weird bond movie feeling to it, It's honestly got some interesting characters, and the plot is always moving, the unfortunate part about the movie is that it is so boring. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review Irelia I fun BUT it is still pretty bad Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review Matthew D No story necessary, Godzilla just wants to sleep, but is awakened to fight a red lobster. Japanese director Jun Fukuda‘s kaiju sci-fi horror comedy Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (1966) is genuinely absurdist humor. WriterShinichi Sekizawa's story is a real scream. Ebirah, Horror of the Deep opens on a 60's dance party, goes to an island of Mothra worshippers, Godzilla is asleep, Ebirah the red lobster kaiju attacks fishermen, soldiers capture worshippers, comedy relief guys awaken Godzilla to fight Ebirah, and then Godzilla rips off Ebirah's lobster claws and taunts his enemy, all before jumping into the sea away from an exploding military base like Godzilla is an action hero. Jun Fukuda's direction is playful, silly, and never trying to make sense. It's frustrating to watch nothing happen, but Godzilla versus Ebirah is hilarious to witness. Everyone is just having a lark on this one. It's 87 minutes of nonsense until Godzilla fights the lobster enemy. Do I need to say more here? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/21/24 Full Review Spike G A disappointing godzilla movie Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/06/24 Full Review Russ A slow start especially for American audiences reading subtitles. The giant rock lobster is campy as all get-out. It does feature some good practical effects in model making and Godzilla gets in his fair share of stomping stuff. Mothra puts in a cameo appearance. Reportedly it was a weak effort in the Godzilla series that went straight to Creature Feature TV showings in the US. Good for a few chuckles in places though may be too slow-paced for kiddie faire.
