      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Despite an electrifying performance by William H. Macy, David Mamet's one-act morality play translates poorly into a film that is overburdened by dialogue.

Audience Member the sell of edmond is its nihilistic commitment to the cynical relationship the protagonist embodies between himself and the world around one, possessively entitled to the women and the non-white characters he interacts with. the praise you can give it is the rumination on the manic relationship people with general privilege have with those who don't - it's cruel in places and the discomfort comes from WHM's character stepping on the scenery, expecting a world he understood. in certain respects it is a question of what does a worker bee do when he realises he is a worker bee- instead of dismantling the system, he eats those around him. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review max n What an awful movie. All this movie is a guy played by William H. Macy walking around New York City trying to get laid with women, and ends up getting into arguments with everyone he interacts with. And at the end he ends up in prison for killing a couple of people. Really hate this movie. This movie doesn't even have any reason to exist. Completely unwatchable. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review don s A bit reminiscent of the Michael Douglas movie Falling Down, this indie drama based on a David Mamet play is more subtle but much less entertaining. Macy, as usual, is awesome. The downfall here is the story move too slowly and the tragic incidents that befall poor Edmond this night are all of his own making. None of it had to happen and life would have been better had it not. Not much of a moral. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Terrible, terrible movie. You will never get those 90 minutes back. Only proves that actors will do anything to get on the Big Silver Screen. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Objectively it's not good, but I enjoyed the nihilism and philosophically "overburdened" dialogue. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member This literally may be the worst movie I've ever seen. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Deborah Ross The Spectator It's disturbing and challenging and will worry away at you... But, that said, it is its own genre, is peculiarly riveting, and is only 87 minutes. Aug 23, 2018 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard This is a small film with a big payback, like a series of tableaux that illustrate how a mildmannered Mr Everyman can become viciously untamed. Rated: 4/5 Jul 6, 2007 Full Review Anthony Quinn Independent (UK) It plays like a low-cal Falling Down, with all the rage of Michael Douglas's office malcontent but none of his dark humour. Possibly the weakest thing Mamet has ever written. Rated: 1/5 Jul 6, 2007 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...an amateurish, context-free trainwreck devoid of positive attributes... Rated: 3/5 Apr 27, 2008 Full Review Brian Holcomb PopMatters "Edmond" is beyond black comedy, it's a comedy in almost total stygian darkness. A comedy where the laughs make you cough up razor blades. Rated: 8/10 Apr 20, 2008 Full Review Read all reviews
