The people of an unnamed kingdom are suffering, thanks to the greed and madness of King Jaywardhan (Sharmila Tagore). Meanwhile, the rebellious Prince Harshwardhan (Sanjay Dutt) has spent years living in seclusion, wanting no part of royal life and its treacheries, until the queen abruptly dies. Then a letter informs the prince that his birth father is Eklavya (Amitabh Bachchan), a royal guard with legendary aim, who is being targeted for death by the king and his vile brother (Vidya Balan).
