Assassin-for-hire Elektra (Jennifer Garner) works for a mysterious international organization known as the Hand, for which she kills her targets without question, and in a conspicuous red bustier, no less. When the Hand asks her to kill Mark Miller (Goran Visnjic) and his daughter, Abby (Kirsten Prout), while they're on holiday, Elektra's conscience kicks in and she decides to protect her targets rather than eliminate them. Of course, the Hand isn't so willing to let them off the hook.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Jennifer Garner inhabits her role with earnest gusto, but Elektra's tone deaf script is too self-serious and bereft of intelligent dialogue to provide engaging thrills.

Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com The real issue I have with this movie is how uneventful so much of it feels. Rated: C- May 1, 2020 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald If the film isn't as bad as some others in the comics-to-cinema genre (Halle Berry's Catwoman has rather lowered the bar), that's not to say it's good. Jan 31, 2022 Full Review Deryck Swan The List The special effects are well realized and enough attention is paid to the character of Elektra to make her a formidable rival to any number of Wolverines. Rated: 3/5 Apr 23, 2019 Full Review Leona Laurie Geek Girl Authority This movie passes the Bechdel Test and the Knope Friendship Test. It's also way better than it gets credit for. Rick C I'm not sure how I feel about this movie. I could say it is better than Daredevil, but that's not saying much. 2005's Elektra introduces some supernatural elements that it doesn't explain very well. Elektra somehow gained psychic abilities after being resurrected. There are multiple villains with supernatural powers as well, but I'm not sure if they were born with their abilities or gained them through training, etc. I'm also not sure what makes someone "The Treasure" or what "The Treasure" even is beyond being a MacGuffin. Most bewilderingly, though, is how that absolute flop of a movie Daredevil managed to get a spin-off. Between Ben Affleck's Daredevil and Jennifer Garner's Elektra she is definitely the superior of the two characters, but this movie feels unnecessary. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/25 Full Review Audience Member Maybe a couple of good things: Jennifer Gardner looks very hot and sexy throughout the film and some of the action wasn't too bad, however (onto the bad), too many things happened in the film that didn't make any sense at all. People die and people come back to life in ways that are either impossible or completely ridiculous and inconsistent. There were too many odd transitions, bad special effects, and the plot was way WAY too predictable! It wasn't the worst movie I've seen, I've seen much worse, but as far as superhero movies go this one is for sure a let down on many levels. They should've done a Daredevil 2 instead, I think even that would've been better! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/02/25 Full Review Nick R Just bad. Just very bad all around. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/13/24 Full Review alan g Very pretty actors but not much action. No such thing as Indonesian warrior beads. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/24/24 Full Review Audience Member Movie had almost no action and dragged on. Liked her alot better in the Deadpool and wolverine movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/04/24 Full Review The G I really enjoy this movie, I like it but there are a lot of things that could have been fixed like maybe the villain he is very bad and very forgettable! Otherwise, the movie is one of the worst Marvel movies ever made, but as a character, Jennifer Garner does a unique job in this role and I think she does well. She is much better than the one in Daredevil on NETFLIX. Naturally, Jennifer Garner in Daredevil with Ben Affleck does it even more uniquely, but unfortunately there is no sequel and there won't be. I'm going to see Deadpool & Wolverine on July 26th and I hope she's in, even if it's just a cameo! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/24/24 Full Review Read all reviews
