With equal parts sensitivity and suspense, Elizabeth is Missing displays an emotional range that is sometimes uncommon in crime by interweaving it with an intensely personal drama. The result is mesmerizing. Go to Full Review

The film is a frustrating work in that it details layers and layers of frustration on every front, but it's also simple, beautiful, and effective. Elizabeth may be missing in a tangible sense, but increasingly in her own life, Maud is too. Go to Full Review

It's a great setup for a straightforward mystery, but "Elizabeth Is Missing" is more complicated than that, and while you can't hold that ambition against it, you might wish that you were watching something simpler. Go to Full Review

Barb S 07/22/2023 I chose to watch "Elizabeth is Missing" because it's a mystery & Glenda Jackson is the lead. I was wary about the backdrop of Alzheimer's Disease; I was not in the mood for tragedy. It IS a mystery & Ms. Jackson is brilliant playing her character. There's so much dimension to her and she keeps moving the plot along. It's a rich movie, doesn't require any tears (though I did sigh a few times), and I did manage to fold a basket of laundry while watching. I highly recommend it. See more harris r 07/08/2021 Felt like four short random film-school projects on the same subject burned onto one DVD. One would expect that a four part anthology would have something more in common than just the theme. This film was not the case. Although all four were very well shot - and I'm assuming on a low budget, they were still flawed. The second one was the most interesting and captivating, with some nice unexpected twists, and well acted. The third one touched on some real-life issues, and performances were the best of all four, but it was slow, depressing and predictable. The last one was just a smorgasbord of self-experimentation - albeit with some decent special effects, sub-par acting, with the predictable ending being the only fun part. The first one was just a pointless story with many plot holes, and without any real substance or merit to its story. Probably the worst performances of the four. Thankfully all four were nice and short and filled up the 94 min total runtime efficiently. See more tony h 05/29/2021 Everybody ought to watch and be sure to understand what's going-on in this film. It's a picture about the bigger picture, really; Superbly done, and eminently watchable! See more vander a 03/30/2021 Excellent. Probably one of the best movies about dementia in that you are seeing the results and progression of dementia in a more subtle and realistic way. Glenda Jackson is phenomenal. See more 03/16/2021 An intriguing premise that made me think a bit about Memento (2000). But ELIZABETH IS MISSING is nowhere near as deep and complex as that movie. ELIZABETH IS MISSING is charming and low key and doesn't really reach the level of intensity or suspense that it needed to be to be a great movie. Glenda Jackson is brilliant as Maud but the pace of the story is so slow that there are times I wished that it would just get on with it. It's definitely not an action movie! There's a genuine mystery in this story that is tracked through flashbacks that Maud experiences, triggered by events in the present. It's categorisation as a thriller by some services is really pulling a long bow. It does, however, provoke some thinking about the frustration experienced by those suffering from dementia, the loss of identity, the reduction in agency, the ability to empathise with others, and the bias we may have toward not believing what they might be trying to tell us. It's worth watching if only to increase our understanding of this horrendous disease. See more 01/18/2021 Great performance by Glenda Jackson in a difficult story about a woman trying to solve personal mysteries while struggling with Alzheimer's. Moving, at times heartbreaking. If it were a feature, Jackson would rightly be nominated for another Oscar. See more Read all reviews
