Boyd van Hoeij Hollywood Reporter Emo: The Musical is kind of a hot mess. But it's undeniable that there's also something just so damn likeable about these good-looking youngsters warbling about their teenage troubles. Feb 18, 2017 Full Review Jude Dry indieWire With a love story you can root for, a cheeky sense of humor, and a catchy melodic score, it's hard not to fall for EMO the Musical, which is sure to hit with audiences young and old. Rated: B+ Feb 17, 2017 Full Review Luke Buckmaster Guardian The tone and execution is pretty infantile, suggesting something too childish for adults or even teenagers, with an intellectual context too serious for kids. Rated: 2/5 Aug 15, 2016 Full Review Andrew Gaudion THN A kind-spirited, yet predicable and uninspired musical that fails to get the toe-tapping. Rated: 2/5 Aug 30, 2020 Full Review Steven Neish HeyUGuys Neatly sidestepping the controversy and scorn that once surrounded the genre, Emo the Musical is a pastiche rather than a parody. Rated: 3/5 Jun 27, 2017 Full Review Vicky Roach Daily Telegraph (Australia) It's a corker concept, unevenly realised, but delivered with enough energy and conviction to ensure you leave the theatre smiling. SULSUCKER Some of the humor was enjoyable, but most of it was just plain boring or bad. It's not a horrible movie, nor anywhere near a masterpiece. The emo jokes got repetitive and ruined the vibe in most parts. The "Jesus is an emo" part didn't make sense to me. Asides from the confusing and unfunny humor, some of the side characters were funny and genuinely made the movie good, it did get kind of ruined at the end like they needed to write emo jokes that teenagers will understand in a time limit. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/19/23 Full Review alabama e 50 word film review : There's something different about a musical…which is a comedy…about emos, every time I watch it, it never fails to make me laugh. The way it's put together, perfect, it's not regular or irregular. It's just different. Which is perfect. You wont regret watching it. This Australian oddity is worth seeing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Andrea N If you watch this movie how it's supposed to be watched (as a satire) then it's actually really funny and enjoyable! Some of the songs aren't half bad either. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/12/21 Full Review Audience Member It wasn't a masterpiece, but this is a feel-good teenage drama that might be seen as controversial - as everything that includes religion certainly is. It presents a sweet story with a dark sense of humour and I particularly like the message it tries to send: people don't have to be one thing and it takes courage to be who you are, but it's totally worth it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is good awful, the plot is boing and unrealistic. They make jokes about self harm and suicide that just make fun of the person doing it. A gay guy going through electro shock therapy is the butt of the joke multiple times, you even see him shock himself Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member well this is offensive in both ways cause first you have offended the christian community by saying that "jesus should have been emo" like please stop.... and second in the emo community by making it seems that being emo is edgy of destruction cause to be honest thats not really emo if you say punk sure but emo not really fit cause us emo are depressed but it does not mean you can make chaos by burning for parents coffin (which would fit if your punk) so yeah, please dont take it too personally Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
