EVERY BODY is a revelatory investigation of the lives of intersex people. The film tells the stories of three individuals who have moved from childhoods marked by shame, secrecy, and non-consensual surgeries to thriving adulthoods after each decided to set aside medical advice to keep their bodies a secret and instead came out as their authentic selves. Actor and screenwriter River Gallo (they/them), political consultant Alicia Roth Weigel (she/they), and Ph.D. student Sean Saifa Wall (he/him) are now leaders in a fast-growing global movement advocating for greater understanding of the intersex community and an end to unnecessary surgeries. Woven into the story is a stranger-than-fiction case of medical abuse, featuring exclusive footage from the NBC News archives, which helps explain the modern-day treatment of intersex people.

Leslie Felperin Financial Times [A] moving and illuminating documentary... Rated: 3/5 Dec 18, 2023 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Heartbreaking as this story is, the picture’s peppy energy results in a film that is celebratory and defiantly upbeat. Rated: 4/5 Dec 17, 2023 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian At all events, this is a sympathetic and very contemporary study. Rated: 3/5 Dec 12, 2023 Full Review David Bax Battleship Pretension Cohen’s pop sheen comes off as, at times, distasteful but, on the other hand, maybe it’s packaging and commodification that make a documentary that aims first to persuade achieve its goal. Oct 11, 2024 Full Review Ben Turner The Pink Lens The film makes much of the importance of visibility, ensuring that the public understands and can see real intersex people in the media. Jacob An absolutely amazing documentary chronicling how the lives of many intersex people have been affected by forceful and unnecessary surgery while they children. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/13/23 Full Review Maureen Very informative. Everyone should see this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/11/23 Full Review moviEDJ Informative and inspiring. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/11/23 Full Review Google Beautiful documentary filmmaking. Educational and emotionally uplifting! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/08/23 Full Review Elizah This moving documentary provides much needed representation of the I in LGBTQIA+. The fight for trans and intersex rights overlap as they both challenge the simplistic notion of using a binary to categorize individuals. With over 40 documented biological variations of sex, there is hard evidence that sex too is non-binary. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/05/23 Full Review Vegas V. This is an extraordinary look to what has been a 'secret' for many years. This documentary brings to light the lives of three-four major recipients of doctor advised, confused parents permissions, to have children born with dual gender parts an dhow they were forced into becoming something they were not. Once a taboo topic, this enlightens the audience to what they went through and how they changed laws to transform their rights as individuals and stop the mutilation of their organs to achieve 'proper society' genders. No longer can a parent have their child undergo this surgery and now the individual will make that choice when they grow up - after puberty and how they identify. Excellent film - no forceful shocking things - just plain and simple the realizations that we are all humans and individuals - and some, cannot control how they were born - acceptance is what we need in our society. As a real gender person, I was enlightened a great deal by this wonderful documentary - tastefully executed - and it really is a must see! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
