Peter F Look… it’s a fun, by-the-books alien invasion story, but ultimately once you figure out what “it” is you’ll be laughing for the rest of the movie. It’s almost as silly as Sign’s “aliens are allergic to water,” but without the stunning cinematography or dread, replaced by your run-of-the-mill action flick with “heart,” and a father reconnecting with his family. I'm a long time sci-fi fan and this film was terrible. At no point do you actually to care about the characters, they barely seem to care for one another until everything goes to pot, thoroughly unlikeable characters, theres no real emotion to the story, which i guess makes sense, but doesn't help anyone connect to the story or care about the outcome. The writers probably thought the twist was exceptional, but really it was more of a sprain, pretty dull as movie twists go and hardly mind boggling. Was very CGI heavy and to be fair even that was pretty mediocre, especially at the end. Jeezo. I want to be able to say something positive about the movie but unfortunately i can't think of anything, other than i POSITIVELY do NOT recommend watching it, massive waste of time for my partner and I. The reframing of the movie destroys your attachment to the story. What little connection you feel to the characters is completely lost. You don't really care if the protagonist and his family live or die after that. Michael Pena does an admirable job with what the script gives him, but there's no emotional chemistry with anyone else in the film. Really, it seems as though the whole film exists for the purpose of the big twist and showing how clever the screenwriters are. "Look at us! Didn't see that coming did ya?"
