What to Know

Critics Consensus

Extinction has a few intriguing ideas, but they -- and some game performances from its talented stars -- are lost in the movie's muddled plot and frustrating pacing.

Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting It's a simple, efficient sci-fi thriller with big Blockbuster aspirations but without much charisma or soul. Rated: 2/5 Jul 3, 2019 Full Review Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald The big twist is a good one, there are some decent action sequences and Lizzy Caplan is always good to watch, but there isn't enough here to keep things from dragging. Aug 17, 2018 Full Review Roxana Hadadi Pajiba It's a narrative that is familiar in most of sci-fi, but how thoroughly this film follows that preceding movie's beats is disappointingly uncreative. Aug 2, 2018 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...somewhat generic and tedious... Rated: 2/4 Jun 4, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Feels as if it would work better as a pilot for a television series - perhaps chiefly because the conclusion is a mere setup for further tales in this speculative world. Rated: 5/10 Dec 6, 2020 Full Review Alex Hudson Exclaim! For such talented actors, these are truly deplorable performances. Rated: 2/10 Jul 18, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Isla J It's honestly not so bad. I have to admit, the first part is kind of awkward and there are plenty of moments that just seemed "off"? Perhaps it was how the scenes were cut or angled? But the plot is good and I'm hoping that there's a sequel should there's be an improvement on the "awkwardness". Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/06/24 Full Review Tijs v I think it is a short but decent movie. I did not expect the big twist. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/27/24 Full Review MIKE C Liked the twists. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/21/24 Full Review Aman A The movie started off great and was able to build suspense in a short period of time action and thrill was overall good, this movie had so much potential but the plot twist failed to deliever the expected performence, due to the plot twist are we supposed to feel bad for AI or Humans it really left me wondering what do they want us to feel Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/09/24 Full Review Dan M It has a good twist. But everything else is shockingly bad. The acting (from usually good actors/actresses) is "off". The storyline is jagged and is slow in the wrong places and fast in even wronger places. All this culminates in an ending with some of the worst CGI I've ever seen – and I'm including the original Tomb Raider games where she was all square where curves were supposed to be. It's not all that important, because it is the ending scene... but as the film comes to a close and you inevitably stare blankly at the person next to you and ask each other "was this worth watching?", the terrible CGI slams all the nails in the coffin at once with a resounding "F*** NO!" Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review Jake A I thought the film was good, better than the critical rating. Michael Pena gives a good performance, as do the others. The pace was good, setting the scenes for what’s to come. If the acting is in question it’s because of what the twists hold in store for the viewer and once the twists have been revealed it makes sense. The most important thing to me is the story telling in a film, above graphics and artistry behind a camera, which are still good too. It’s quite thought provoking and relevant too, with today’s society and particular technology. Overall I believe that this film is worth a watch, so ignore the lower rating and give it a go. PS I hope a sequel will be made. Probably not, due to the twist, but if it’s a good story… Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/18/24 Full Review Read all reviews
