Critics Consensus

Extinction has a few intriguing ideas, but they -- and some game performances from its talented stars -- are lost in the movie's muddled plot and frustrating pacing.

Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting It's a simple, efficient sci-fi thriller with big Blockbuster aspirations but without much charisma or soul. Rated: 2/5 Jul 3, 2019 Full Review Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald The big twist is a good one, there are some decent action sequences and Lizzy Caplan is always good to watch, but there isn't enough here to keep things from dragging. Aug 17, 2018 Full Review Roxana Hadadi Pajiba It's a narrative that is familiar in most of sci-fi, but how thoroughly this film follows that preceding movie's beats is disappointingly uncreative. Aug 2, 2018 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...somewhat generic and tedious... Rated: 2/4 Jun 4, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Feels as if it would work better as a pilot for a television series - perhaps chiefly because the conclusion is a mere setup for further tales in this speculative world. Rated: 5/10 Dec 6, 2020 Full Review Alex Hudson Exclaim! For such talented actors, these are truly deplorable performances. Rated: 2/10 Jul 18, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Gregory L Oh my gods this was terrible, what a waste of money and production time, the whole setup took so much time and was boring as hell. Then the action starts which is the alien invasion spliced with scenes of a crying young girl under a kitchen table clutching her stuffed animal calling out for mommy. I was praying she would be vaporized by the aliens, I was begging the universe to please turn that child to ash so I don’t have to hear her sniffling fake crying. Movies are getting worse, same old crap, who wants to sit through two hours of crying children and screaming woman? No one. Do writers, directors and producers even watch movies anymore? Do they enjoy sitting through hours of someone crying and screaming? Go back to film school. Booooooo. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/08/25 Full Review Tanaputz J Michael Pena is a talented artist. That said, he should fire his agent for hooking him up with this project. The film had a cool concept...and just blew it on delivery. Find something else... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/01/25 Full Review Audience Member Ithas a good concept. The story and cinematography is nice. The aliens are cheesy but thats about it. Better than a lot of similar movies. I dont understand why its rated so low. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/02/25 Full Review George T Honestly, don’t waste your time with this. The idea is cool but the execution is absolutely awful. Cringe writing, bad acting, annoying kids and terrible writing stop any immersion. Don’t even get me started with the fact the whole movie is based on a twist that just doesn’t hit.. Sad because the plot is a great idea, could easily be remade into something good. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/31/25 Full Review Peter F Look… it’s a fun, by-the-books alien invasion story, but ultimately once you figure out what “it” is you’ll be laughing for the rest of the movie. It’s almost as silly as Sign’s “aliens are allergic to water,” but without the stunning cinematography or dread, replaced by your run-of-the-mill action flick with “heart,” and a father reconnecting with his family. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/04/25 Full Review Daniel N I quite liked this. A fun alien invasion movie with a nice blend of action and drama. Really good first time through and a nice twist at the end. But hard to enjoy a second time once you know what the twist is. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/09/25 Full Review Read all reviews
