Anupama Chopra Film Companion Fan is a fascinating but flawed study of celebrity and the reverential relationship we have with our stars. The film is a hall of mirrors with Shah Rukh playing a thinly disguised version of himself as Aryan Khanna the superstar. Dec 20, 2018 Full Review Anil Sinanan Time Out A little more restraint in maintaining the tonal consistency would have resulted in a much darker and satisfying cautionary tale about the perils of fame and blind love. Rated: 3/5 Nov 14, 2016 Full Review Lisa Tsering The Hollywood Reporter [Director Sharma] pads out the songless film with well-executed but overlong action pieces that become even more frustrating when you consider the ways time could have been better spent exploring Aryan's fascinating backstory. Apr 18, 2016 Full Review Sharanya Kumar Film Companion His steps are goofy and imprecise, perfectly capturing the uninhibited adoration Gaurav feels for his idol... Nov 10, 2023 Full Review Anna M.M. Vetticad Firstpost What a pleasure to watch Shah Rukh Khan shrug off every quirk his admirers have drooled over for 27 years and sink his teeth into a role. May 8, 2019 Full Review Rahul Desai CatchNews The makers just can't resist the urge of "playing the game" (and then mentioning it, literally) - oversmart disguises, over-shoulder strides, anonymous phone calls, ignorant foreigners... Audience Member From watching this movie you could see the amount of effort put in, special effects in this movie were fantastic, Shahrukh Khan playing a double sided role with him playing as the superstar and then just an average Delhi boy, completely amazing on how Shahrukh played both of these characters. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/20/24 Full Review Niloy D At the beginning the story is going too good. But after interval it's getting worse. Not relatable. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Meydiana R A truly magnificent performance Shah Rukh Khan already has many roles under his belt, but this one might just surpass them all, playing as Aryan a super star like his own real life persona, and his own biggest fans Chandna. It's one of the performances that resonates in personal level, there are times that audience would believe he's two different persons. Chandna is a fan highly obsessed with his star Aryan, almost down to a fault. This may seem like harmless attachment, but after a certain incident, the fondness becomes volatile and it turns him against his own idol. The playful theme can be deceptively bizarre, but with more social media outreach, fan might just think they are actually connected to random stranger. It's shown here at its most extreme, though might be slightly exaggerated. Both setting and make-up enable SRK to deliver crisp and flashy scenes. The sight of London and Dubrovnik make for great scenery even when he simply traverses them, but the zenith is the performance as two characters side by side. The make-up does a good job on creating highly different visages, the rest is sheer acting prowess. Some of the action scenes are admittedly awkward, it's mostly a thriller but there are a few overly long chase sequences perhaps added just for the sake of more action. "Fan" is a tribute to one of the greatest actors in Bollywood. The acting is immensely appreciated whether one is a fan of Bollywood or not. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Bollywood make-up special effects technology is incredible, and Shah Rukh Khan has taken on several disguise roles in recent years, with the result being a seamless blend of special effects and acting. The conflict between the two major parts is not effectively handled, and the general mood is also lacking a cohesive tone, but the good news is that the tale can be delivered in its entirety, and Khan can completely support the plot. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member A flawless 1st half with somewhat flawed 2nd half ,and an award worthy performance from Shah Rukh. The intensity and depth he shows especially as Aryan is something very few can match Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member For every person who is a fan of someone. First of all,I must say the movie is outstanding in all aspects.Though I am not a fan of this actor but I should say that he has done a very nice acting in both the roles of Aryan Khanna and Gaurav Chandana. Specially, the role of gaurav chandana as a fan is fabulous. The story is unique in a Bollywood and well scripted too. The screenplay is very well maintained and full of excitement. The only thing I wonder about is that it has very comical scenes in a first half and some darker side and intense scenes full of emotions in a second half. Although it is a good combination and actor well maintained the balance between two roles. I have not seen such a great acting in any of his past movies like dilwale, happy new year and chennai express. But this time, he has done exceptionally well and may be best performance of his life. I would not tell you whole story here. You just go and watch the movie. It is not only for shahrukh khan fa Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
