What to Know

Critics Consensus

Eye-popping driving sequences coupled with a limp story and flat performances make this Drift a disappointing follow-up to previous Fast and Furious installments.

Anthony Quinn Independent (UK) This third outing made me almost nostalgic for the original movie starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. Almost. Mar 31, 2019 Full Review Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) Whizzily underwhelming... Mar 31, 2019 Full Review James Christopher The Times (UK) The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift is another dismal chapter in a franchise that started promisingly enough with Rob Cohen's rebel-with-too-much-horse-power-but-lots-of-chicks. Mar 29, 2019 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Racing scenes, the only reason people endure this franchise’s bad scripts and worse acting, are filmed unintelligibly fast and enhanced by generic computer effects. Rated: 0.5/4 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Fully embracing car culture, yet without the over-the-top slang abused in the previous picture, this third chapter wisely dispenses with the undercover cop missions. Rated: 4/10 Aug 9, 2023 Full Review Brett Doze InSession Film This entry lacks due to Sean being the least interesting character in the film, but it also finds success by featuring some of the very best racing scenes of the entire franchise. Tanner P Everybody acts like fast and furious movies are about the story but doms story isn’t that great and has completely lost all credibility the franchise has gone away from racing cars and toward saving the world. but for some reason the one that isn’t fully connected to dom is the worst? but thats wrong it has its own unique style and great story and overall the best ff movie this is the only ff movie i will rewatch Tokyo drift is a thousand times better then any of the new ff movies Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/04/25 Full Review Romas M Greetings from Lithuania. "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" (2006) is a must see F&F film for fans of the franchise. Filled with good performances from all of the cast that were and still are mostly unknowns, good story and solid storytelling, this chapter truly delivers. Being a first directing effort in the series by Justin Lin - "Tokyo Drift" captured what I personally have truly wanted from this series at that point - an involving story, fast cars, different approach to races, interesting characters. I truly believe that "Tokyo Drift" is the second best chapter in the franchise after superior "Fast Five". It delivers on every aspect. I saw it more times than any of the film in this series just because this movie is first off all about something more then just fast cars - it has a true and real plot, with main character I did care. Sure, it is simple as it goes but the underdog stories are something i really dig. Overall, "Tokyo Drift" is truly a simple yet great entertainment all around for me personally. It has everything that one can expect from the series without space travel - a really involving story first. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/29/25 Full Review Abraham L One of the best movies of the franchise. Great story besides the racing. Pretty awesome Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/16/25 Full Review Ed R Not the best movie of the franchise but ties together the complete story. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/02/25 Full Review Omid S. This is probably the worst fast and furious movie. Every other one I believe is four or five stars. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/20/25 Full Review Joseph M It definitely has the best esthetic of all the movies in the franchise, but is dragged down by a dumb plot and even dumber protagonist.
