Jeff M For some reason, I'm a sucker for 80s and 90s TV movies, especially the "issue" movies involving eating disorders or teenagers on drugs or having an affair with your best friend's son - sometimes all in the same film! This one, however, isn't so fun - a lurid and uncomfortable drama based on a true story that seems to sink under the weight of its good intentions. It's all just a bit TOO much, and with all due respect, Long is not a strong enough actress to carry this type of material. That's a disappointment because I don't think the filmmakers here are trying to sensationalize the story, although it sometimes feels more like a parody with shocking revelations and predictable family drama. While I don't expect TV movies of this time period to compare with what we see nowadays (comparable to and sometimes surpassing theatrical cinema), this one falls below even those meager standards. And there's nothing worse than a courtroom drama that doesn't even let us watch the verdict being given at the end - we find out what happens via Long's narration. That is unforgivable! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/22/24 Full Review Audience Member Ok tv movie. Shelly Long did a nice job in this. Very convincing and heartwarming performance on her behalf. This movie is about a woman who after 20 years starts to remember what her father did to her when she was younger. Through these memories she also remembers a crime he committed that involved her best friend at the time. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
