Finestkind tells the story of two brothers (Ben Foster & Toby Wallace), raised in different worlds, who are reunited as adults over a fateful summer. Set against the backdrop of commercial fishing, the story takes on primal stakes when desperate circumstances force the brothers to strike a deal with a violent Boston crime gang. Along the way a young woman (Jenna Ortega) finds herself caught perilously in the middle. Sacrifices must be made and bonds between brothers, friends, lovers, and a father (Tommy Lee Jones) and his son are put to the ultimate test.

Foster is at his best in roles like this one, where his emotions are tightly coiled and always close to exploding, but the storyline does not give him much to work with and Wallace cannot make much out of a blandly-conceived role.

FINESTKIND begins strongly, led by an engaging Toby Wallace and a compelling sense of adventure. Unfortunately, the film soon stumbles into a mess of contrivance and crime cliche that reaches a strange climax before committing to a sentimental finish. Good effort, I suppose, but not of the caliber audiences may expect with Taylor Sheridan prominently listed as a producer.

The fact this movie doesn't hold a better review, shows the disconnect between cinema critics and the audience. Is the storyline a little predictable, possibly. Does it feel similar to a sea loving Hell or High Water, yes. What makes this worth a viewers time is the amazing performances by an all-star cast.

I really enjoyed it, sure it was rather predictable but I still got caught up in it somehow . Probably because Ben Foster is just that good, possibly the most underrated actor of our time and Tommy is solid in the supporting. If you enjoyed it check out. Hell or High Water

Swing and a miss. Entertaining enough to watch, but you can drive that fishing boat through the plot holes in this movie! Like what the hell happened to the guys that stole from them? And who set them up? These and many other questions do not ever get answered... and not in a good way.

A very underrated movie. The characters are very well developed and deep. The relationship between father and son illuminates an unbreakable shared bond. Tommy Lee Jones delivers a stellar performance as does the whole cast. Ben Jones brings a conflicted character to life and has the audience engulfed in the conflict between doing what he knows is right and trying to save his father’s dreams. Highly recommended!!
